Team Task
Identify when we can switch the play to keep possession and penetrate. (Hidden learning: switch to player facing forward to play forward for a first time finish).
BPO Player task:
1. Immediate pressure on the ball/ nearest player.
BP Player tasks:
1. Can you be in a position to see the ball and the area?
2. Can the players provide options high, low, left and right?
3. Can we move the ball quickly to exploit the space in between defenders?
4. Can we be patient and wait for the right opportunity to switch?
5. Players in switching grid can you adjust to be in a position to receive and play as the ball moves around the other grid?
Coaches Cues:
1a. As the ball is played in are we occupying a position to receive the ball ourselves and be aware of the first line of pressure?
1b. If the above happens but the line becomes blocked can we empty the space to either drag a defender out or get into a new passing lane?
2. Can we adjust as a unit to support the player on the ball and make the space as big as possible?
3. If we have made the space bigger, then the passing lanes should allow for more opportunity to play in between defenders, so long as the ball speed is high?
4. Can we recycle or switch the ball until the right opportunity presents to play a team mate in the other grid that is facing forward?
5. Can 1 of you stay high and the other low, adjusting your body shape in relation to the ball and your first line of pressure?

5 Ws
Where: Middle third, In tight areas
When: The opposition compresses on us
What: when we play in tight areas instead of turning out we try to force play through tight spaces resulting in high turnover
Why: We fail to position our M3 to support the ball carrier and utilise options back or sideways and try and pass forward at all costs
Who: Back 4, M3 (this session focuses on M3)
