Dealing with crosses (30 mins)
Key Factors
Dealing with balls from wide areas
Organisation
One goal,
1 Keeper
2 defenders
2 winger
1 midfielder
The goalkeeper will deal with a range of crosses from both wings. If the keeper calls for defenders to deal, the ball stays live until the defenders clear the ball (scoring success in the mini goals) or strikers get a shot off or pass back out to wingers to recycle another cross. If the keeper catches the ball, then the keeper can distribute by throw/kick to attempt to score in mini goals.
There are two marked areas where crosses will come from either side of the pitch.
Technical
Keeper needs to deal with a wide ball, catch, punch or deflect.
Tactical
Postioning in relation to the ball, assessing inswinging and outswinging cross, tactically assessing danger from opposition and being vocally big and organised
Psychological
Concentration mainainting focus, assess the simulation of the ball and make a early decision, be positive, confident and brave, desire to defend the goal
Physical
Dealing with physical contact, speed on approach to affect ball.
progressions
Alter the distant of the crosses.
Strikers get an extra point if scoring direct from the cross
Switch wingers to put inswinging (making the keeper working)
Regressions
reduced to 1 v 1 in the area to give the keeper more opportunities
