Arrival Activity (5 mins)

Arrival Activity - Keep the Ball

 

6 red players have a ball each and must keep control of it within the square

3 blue players must try to win a ball from the reds

4 rounds played - 1 mintue / 45 seconds / 30 seconds / 20 seconds

 

Point system (per round)

+1 point to red players if they have a ball at the end

+3 points to blue players if they have a ball at the end

+5 points to red players if they have a ball at the end of the four rounds

Activity 1 - 1v1 - Through the Gate (10 mins)

The red player (attacker) starts with the ball

The blue player (defender) comes out to meet the attacker as soon as the ball is dribbled into the square

The attacker must try to beat the defender and dribble through one of the three available gates (either yellow or blue)

The defender must try to stop the attacker, if they win the ball, they must try to dribble through the available gates (either yellow or red)

 

Points System

1 point for dribbling through either yellow gate

3 points for dribbling through blue gate (if attacker) or red gate (if defender) 

 

Coaching Points:

  • Can the players use feints
  • Can they accelerate away from the defender
  • Can they move out quickly
  • Can they be brave - face up the opponent

Activity 2 +1 progression - 1v1 with Server & GK (15 mins)

1v1 (with server and GK)

 

Narrow pitch (orange cones). Sever/end zone (white cones)
  • One GK
  • One defender
  • One attacker
  • One server

Server plays into attacker who bounces the ball back and then moves to left or right to create angle to receive the next pass.

Server plays again, at this point the defender can close down the attacker and they play out 1v1.

Play through until the ball goes out of play or a goal is scored.

Server becomes attacker, attacker becomes defender, defender moves around the field of play to join the back of the queue.

 

Point System:

  • Attacker 1 point for a goal
  • Attacker 2 points if they beat the defender and score
  • Defender 2 points if they win the ball back and get dribble it into the end zone

Progression 1 - Server joins the attacker to play 2v1

Activity 2 - Progression 2 (10 mins)

Activity 2 - Progression 2

 

  • Extra defender added
  • Starts beside the goal
  • Joins as soon as server plays the 2nd pass

 

Players rotate as before, added defender returns to the begininning, 1st defender moves next to the goal. 

Point system, same as before but an additional +1 if a goal is scored from inside the area.

 

Coaching Points:

  • Can they deceive their opponent
  • Can their first touch help move them forward
  • Can they beat their opponent, if not, can they find their teammate
  • Can they use a change of pace to create a chance

  • +1 if they beat a player in the build up to the goal
