Attacking Wave Practice

Straight Line Runs 

• Direct running so that the attack is  quick, promoting the players to run aggressively. 
• Forward pass option. 

• Passes should be played in front of the receiving player so the momentum of the attack is maintained. 

Breaking Lines 

• Ball carriers are encouraged to break lines with their passes, finding spaces in front of the receiving player.  

• Maintain Quality Technical Detail beyond the mannequins 
• Attackers should show conviction in their end product (shooting, crosses, passes) 

Transition Possession

Attacking Team

Having a Picture 

• Scanning skills, awareness of team, space and the opposition. 
• Based on this information use it to find the best position to receive and select a pass. 

• Look to move the ball back to front 
• Making the pitch as big as they can 
• Players in the middle looking to be on the half turn and between / beyond the oppositions defence. 

• Look to change the tempo of attack, speed the ball up when playing through/around pressure
• Stay on the ball when in space move the oppositions press
• possession should be relaxed not frantic 

• Press together, make the pitch small do not leave gaps between
• Control the middle of the pitch 
• Player furthest away from the pitch should step up and prevent the space allowing the space behind. 

• As soon as the defending team win the ball back they should look to play a forwards pass either by linking play with a target man or by making a forward run to penetrate the space.
