Key Principle: Limit opponent's ability to create scoring chances.
Football Problem (using the 5W’s):
What: Back 4 are not compact and don't understand there roles in the back 3rd.
Who: #2, #3, #5, #4 & # GK
Where: Back 3rd
When: When the opponents move into the back 3rd.
Why: Lack the urgency to press the ball carrier because they don't understand how stay compact when under pressure.
Football Problem: Compact defending and understanding when to pressure, not pressure, slide or hold.
Session Objective: I aim to improve out teams ability to make better decision in our back 3rd limiting the opponents opportunity to build up and combine.
Team Tasks: (Team in BPO)
1.Nearest player to the ball try to stop them playing the forward pass.
Players Tasks:
Closest player:
-Force the play backwards or side-wards.
-Force the play away towards or support.
-1st defender don't get beaten
Marked Player:
-If there is pressure on the ball, mark in front of or next to.
-If there is no pressure, position yourself to see both your player and ball
Cover players:
-Drop the cover
-Position yourself on the half turn ready to drop.
-If the play on the ball head goes down/leg swing is back, this = drop ASAP
Players away from the play:
-Look to drop into BPO shape
-Recover goal side.
Player Cue's:
- As the ball is travelling can you get touch tight or make the tackle .
- If you loss the ball, 1st x 5 meters to get back in front of the ball.
Coaches cues:
-Is the ball at risk?
-High or Low?
-Who does this effect?
-Is the ball about to change hands? Can I effect the ball? Can I get someone else to effect the ball?
-If we can affect the ball,HOW?
-Communication by coaching players in front of you (Delay, push right, push left, press high). Are the players pressing on the correct player and stopping them playing out.
-As the ball is travelling can you get in touching distance of the attacker.

Organisation
-Set up as shown 12/16 players
-3 teams of 5 players (Team x 16 players add in a Joke through the centre channel as a link player)
- 3 x sets of bibs (Green/Blue/Red)
Explanation:
-BLUE team have to cover the middle zone with one player to press the ball.
-RED team keeps possession, minimum 5 passes before playing across the middle zone.
-If BLUE win the ball immediately look to play across the middle zone.
-RED go into BPO ( transition in BPO position asap) One press the ball. Other slide.
Change IT:
-Increase/decrease area
-Limit touches for BP team
-To score a point, BP only need to complete 10 passes.

-RED attack the big goals, FIFA rules apply.

-Team with out the ball has to win it back as soon as possible.
-BLUE win the possession, play the target #9 in the centre circle.

Explanation:
-based on total session numbers minimum 8v8.
-FIFA rules apply.
-To score all team mates must be over halfway.

-No stops for goal kicks,throw ins, corners balls.
-GK have 5 secs to play once goals has been scored.

Wrap up:
-Reinforce what the days session “BPO, Win the ball back as close as possible to the opponents goals.
-Ask the players:
-Did they enjoy the session?
-What did they learn?
-Where on the park could it be used?
-When could it be used?
-Why is it valuable to use?
Ask myself:
-Was there visible improvement in the Game training from the positioning practice?
-Did they show an understanding and bring it to the park?
-Did the players enjoy my session? Rating from 1-5 (1 being ordinary & 5 totally enjoyed it and used it in every game practice)
-Was my session effective or not?
-Could I have controlled the session better or differently?
-Was there Perception, Decision Making and Execution present?

Organisation:

- minimum 7/8 players in each grid.

Explanation:
-Play starts from one end.
-Directional play. End to end.
-Bouncers on the ends have limited touches.
Progression:

Player actions: (BPO)
-Every player has 2 tasks 1) pass/move & 2) Close down
-Movement and urgency when closing down..
-Player closing the opponent down look to facing him the direction you want them to go by changing the angle of the run.
Coaches cue's:
-Anticipate the pass. (Quicker decisions)
-Don't dive in unless you are sure you can intercept and regain possession.
-Lower your centre of balance
-Can you make the tackle inside touching distance.
Player Actions: (BP)
-Use and create your own working space
-Accuracy of passing i.e. to the advantage side / space of the receiver
-Handling speed i.e. touch / movement in dribbling
-Positioning (Getting between defenders, back to sideline)
-Scanning (Look over shoulder, tell receiver to check their shoulder)
-Communication (point or call, turn right / left)
Coaches Cues:
-If you are behind the play, look to move into a position in front of the ball carrier until support arrives.
- Don't dive in, hold and force the opponent to play backwards.
- When the ball carrier moves in line, drop to support
-When the opponent plays the pass, closest player to where the ball is travel anticipate the bad touch and win the ball back.
