Description

This sports session plan is to introduce the proper body shape to recieve the ball in order to allow the player to move in a forward direction immediatly upon recieving the pass.

Functional warm up (10 mins)

Method:warm up

  • Coaching Points: game specific warm up. 7 players outside the grid feeding the ball into the 7 players inside the grid who return it back to that player. start with simple passing on the ground . 90 sec then switch players from outside to inside. change up how the ball is played in to incorporate , heading , chest control , vollys etc.try to get players to do this at a high tempo so its more game related.

Introduction to body shape when recieving a pass (20 mins)

Method: simple 20 by 20 square with 4 players and 1 ball. 

  • Coaching Points:Weight of pass . 
  • Allowing the ball to come across your body to your outside foot e.g a full back recieving the ball from the keeper and taking the first touch forward.
  • First touch forward.
  • Good first touch to allow for a quick pass.
  • Rotate the passing direction to allow for the use of both feet.

7v7 to introduce body shape in a competitive game. (20 mins)

Method:7v7 in half pitch. 

Coaching Points:Always start from the keeper. 3 defenders , 2 mid and 2 attackers. Good control as practiced earlier. First touch forward. Try to play through midfield when attacking but if the option to go straight to striker is on then take it. After your attack has scored or broken down the must transition asap into a defensive set up. Play with intensity " Train how you play ".
