Component 1
2 groups of 8 working at same time. 2 permanent wide players, GK and rotating attackers (2).
- 2 central players bounce passes until play is triggered.
- Play triggered by both wide players checking off cones to receive.
- Central player closest to wide players plays the ball.
- Receiving wide player, points shoulders and hips forward in attacking position with receiving leg out ready to dribble.
- Wide player with ball dribbles and puts cross in beyond mannequin, this may be a first time cross depending on the quality of pass.
- Attacking players time their run to get shot away.
- Next 2 waiting central players continue to bounce passes till play is triggered once more. Play starts at opposite wide player.
- Previous group, one player joins last waiting player, while other waits and immediately begin bouncing passes.
Think About
Cross
- Speed of attack (Time limited to expose defence)
- Head/eyes up to judge type of ball to play
- Limit touches, but be in control
- Range of crosses/ passes (Driven, floated, curled, cut back etc)
- Weight of ball and defensive line.
Finish
- Timing of run (Arrive late and fast)
- Stay onside
- Shape of the run (Front post, back post or measured to receive from deep).
- Communication with other attacking players
- Awareness of defensive line
- Type of finish (Header, volley, controlled, power, finesse etc) determined by the situation (Type of cross, attacker and GK position)

Component 1 Progression
As before, but mannequins replaced by one active defender.
Once flow given to the set up, both groups compete to score as many goals as they can within time given.
Be wary of changing offside line. Coaching points as previous.

Component 2
8V8 set up with fixed wing players in attacking halves only, leaving 5V5 in other areas with GKs.
- CBs stay wide to receive, once on ball look to find wide players as soon as possible to impact game.
- Wide players cross to striker and support players. Movement and finish depends on cross and defensive players positions.
Progression
Defensive wing player allowed into opposition crossing area to put pressure on cross, making it harder and more realistic for wing player.
Coaching points as previous.

Phase of Play
Set up of 8V7 (Including 1 GK) and 1 feeder/ neutral player.
- Ball starts with feeder, who plays to CB that has started wide.
- Opportunity for overloads in the wide areas and ultimately crosses.
Freezes
Look for a maximum of 2 chances to improve the cross or finish available.
Possible freezes:
- Delayed cross
- Quality of cross
- Quality of finish
- Decision under pressure
- Support runs
- Positional

Warm Up (10 mins)
Warm Up
Set Up: 2 Groups of 8, 1 at each ladder, 1 feeder, 3 waiting players, 1 GK
1. Player at ladder checks off, receives bounce from central feeder.
2. Ball played back to feeder, then move through speed ladder.
3. Ball passed by feeder to end of ladder and play ends with a strike at goal.
4. Feeder becomes ladder player, ladder player joins waiting line, while next in queue becomes feeder.
Possible progressions might include adding a defender, with feeding player supporting a 2v1. Giving resemblance to the crossing and finishing main session.
