Animal Freeze Dance

Activity Name: Animal Freeze Dance Game - Song Activity
Activity Song: Animal Freeze Dance
Song Link: https://youtu.be/jqz4z9aQRJY?si=LXkS6BGBMpaBMTFr
IMPORTANT: First activity each week is a song-based activity. Coach should play the song using their mobile device
through their Bluetooth speaker.
Activity Setup/Description:
Arrange players as in the diagram. Balls are not needed at first. Let the players know that to start off we are going to play a fun song activity which involves us singing, moving around, and doing the actions of some different animals. Let them know that they have to listen to the song and do the different actions but when the song says 'Freeze' everyone must stop and freeze.
After explaining the song play it, sing along and encourage all participants to join in singing and doing the actions.
Once you have done the song one time tell the players they need to get their ball as you are now going to do the soccer version.
For the soccer version let them know they are going to do the same thing but this time they will be dribbling around with their soccer balls while they are singing and doing the actions.

IMPORTANT - MAKE SURE YOU EXPLAIN TO THE PLAYERS WHAT 'DRIBBLING THE BALL' IS!

Finally, play the song a 3rd time and this time tell them that the animals are going to do different things with the ball. One animal might tap the ball on top (toe taps), one animal might tap the ball on the sides (soccer boxes), another might do pull-backs, or roll the ball with the sole of the foot. Keep it simple but try to introduce some of these skills.
Coaching Points:
- Keep ball close.
- Dribble with the top of the foot (laces) for straight lines. Use inside, outside, sole to change direction.
- Look up to see where there is space to dribble.

Pancake Soccer (15 mins)

Activity Name: Pancake Soccer

Description: Randomly place a number of cones (pancakes) around the area. Sit all of the players down and ask them if they know what pancakes are. Ask them some questions. Who likes pancakes? What do you have on your pancakes? Who can eat a lot of pancakes? Next explain the game. Let the kids know we are going to play the pancake soccer game. Explain that in the area you have a ton of delicious pancakes which are cooking and need flipping over before one side burns. Tell the players that when you shout 'flip those pancakes' the players are going to run around (without a ball to start) and try to flip over as many pancakes as possible, and with the pancakes being hot players are going to use their feet to flip the pancake over, not their hands. Be sure to demonstrate this so the players understand exactly what they are supposed to do. Once all players understand the game then have them play. While players are flipping the pancakes the coach should go around and flip cones back over so that the game can continue and the players do not run out of pancakes to flip. Play for a few minutes and then stop the game. Ask players how many pancakes they flipped. Give a clap to whoever flipped the most cones.

Progression:

- Introduce a ball. Now players must dribble their ball, stop it, and then flip the pancake.

- Have the coach run around and try to kick players balls away from them while they are flipping pancakes. If a players ball is kicked away they must go and get it then continue flipping the pancakes.

Coaching Points:

- Keep ball close.

- Dribble with laces.

- Look up while dribbling.

Scrimmage (15 mins)

3v3 or 4v4 small-sided game. Focus on topics from the session.

Important: For Toddle Ballers & Kinder-Kickers players may not understand the concept of a soccer game. Be sure to bring these players in and explain the following:

- Teams: Ask the players if they know what a team is. If they are unsure explain a team is a group of individuals who work together. Let them know that in soccer there are two teams playing.

- Goals: Show the players the goals. Demonstrate how we kick the ball in the goal.

- Game Concept: Explain that in the game of soccer we have 2 teams and 1 ball. Teams try to kick the ball in the other teams goal and stop it from being kicked in their goal. MAKE SURE PLAYERS KNOW WHICH GOAL IS THEY ARE TRYING TO SCORE IN AND REINFORCE THIS AS THE KIDS PLAY.
- Game Rules:
You may want to play with multiple balls...2 or 3 balls in play at all times. For Toddle Ballers you might want to have every player with
a ball to start.
Do not worry about boundaries. If the ball goes out of bounds just through another ball into play.
