THE SESSION: Attacking in Central Areas
4 Mannequins/poles or cones, depending on what you have

Here we work on combinations and attacking in central areas of the field in and around the 18 yard box.
Player A psees to Player B who has checked away from his defender.
Player B takes his 1st tocuh behind the defender and drives towards the Center Back
Player C has made an arching run off the shoulder of the center back to create a gap for Player B to play a through ball.

The Session
- Use half a field (or modified for smaller players)
- Set players out in positions
- Coach the team in red
- Set players in positions you have in mind for matches
Create zig zags and set attacking patterns
Scenario 1:
- Lightswitch transitions
- Have players look forward as soon as they win back the ball and make forward runs
Scenario 2:
Deep run from central midfield players beyond striker upon winning ball back
Scenario 3:
Get into goal scoring positions - focus on wingers and midfielders being in positions to score goals - in the face of the goal inside the box

Where: Defending third
When: 1) the attacking team is moving down the sideline in our defensive third.
What: 1) Defender in 3v1 close space and deny pass. 2) If pass is not denied, the second defender covers
Why: to prevent cross
Layout: Start with 8x8 grid
Restrictions: 1.5 minute in the midlle then rotate; 9 cycles; No break
Scoring: 2 points for each time defense recovers ball; 2 point for four consecutive passes.
Coaching Points:
Team Shape: compact when denying central passes
Urgency to close space/time on the ball
-Body shape & Positioning to prevent crosses
-Patient defending: NO diving
-Adjust & Re-Adjust hips to continue to force play AWAY
