Activity Instruction
- In the same area as the last activity. Now one player from the red and blue team is working as a defender.
- Attackers now dribble from one end to the other but have to try to avoid the obstacles and an oncoming defender. Players can now complete any skill they wish to even ones we may have practised in previous weeks. Everytime players reach end line without being tackled they earn one point.
- If the defender wins the ball they can dribble it back to the attacker start line. Defenders are encouraged to steal the ball for themselves as opposed to kicking it away from the attacker. If they get to the end line successfully they earn a point.
- Rotate roles of the defender after every round.
Progression
-Add another defender
- Players have to do at least one skill before they reach the end line
Regression
Defenders can only tag the attackers instead of steal their ball away.

Organisation
Two 20x15 areas
Teams split in half. 6 on one side 6 on the other depending on numbers
All players with a ball each
6 mini goals.
Activity Description
- Players are lined up in sequence Blue-Red-Blue-Red on either pitch
- First player in either line dribbles towards the top mini goal as shown as scores unopossed. As soon as they score the next red player in the line dribbles towards the mini goal to create a 1v1.
- If the defending player wins the ball they can score in the opposite mini-goal.
- 1v1 ends after an allotted time or the ball goes of play.
Coaching points
- Focus on change of direction and change of speed when attacking in the 1v1. How can you change direction? What turns could you do? (technical toolbox)
- Be direct. Once you've done your skill and beaten the defender, try and go for goal. 3F's Fast Forward Finish.
- Can you dribble towards one goal to trick the defender to think you're going that way before quickly exploding and going for the opposite goal?
- Once you have finished the attacking phase of your 1v1 how quickly can you react to defend and press them closer to their own goal.
Physical
Changes of speed
Acceleration/ deacceleration
Social
Pair up with players from your team and ask them what skills they did and how they used them?
Peer review and feedback
Psychological
The transition from attacking to defending - Concentration and focus

See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Organisation
- Normal 5v5 game with four mini goals
- extra balls located by each mini-goal for quick restarts if the ball goes out of play
- 5-10 minute games
Activity description
- 5v5 SSG but players can only tackle the player they are paired up with
- Players can block shots and intercept passes from other players
- After a period of playing this format go into a normal SSG with no conditions.
Psych
- Focus/concentration - reaction when you've lost it to retrieve it from your partner
Social
- Ask players to come up with a team game plan prior to the practice. What things can they do to help them succeed in this game? (Skills they could use? Some players in defence/attack?)
Tech/tact/Phys
- Reinforce previous points but allow players some freedom to explore ideas. Only intervene in opportunities for good coaching moments.
