Warm Up (15 mins)

All players in an appropriately sized area for their age/ability. Every player has a ball at their feet. Run through basic ball manipulation techniques such as;

- Toe taps (Static ball, alternate touching the ball with the toes or balls of the feet)

- Bells (feet shoulder width apart, ball inbetween feet and tap the ball from one side to the other)

- Push pulls (push away with laces, toes facing down and drag back with the same foot, alternate feet)

Coaching points:

- Good technique/motion crucial before adding in speed/tempo

1v1 U-Turn Technique (15 mins)

6 cones as shown.

Player makes a move towards the gate, their team mate lays a pass toward them and the player takes a touch and then performs an inside u-turn, as they turn they look up and run forwards with the ball through the opposite gate. Once through, they pass the ball to their team mate at the end of the line and join the line themselves.

Coaching points:

- Tight u-turn using the sole of the foot and keeping the ball close

- Head up once out of the turn and change pace to get through the gate quickly and with minimal touches

1v1 U-Turn Opposed (20 mins)

Pink team player passes the ball to the orange team player, and then makes a looping run around them to prevent the orange team player with the ball from scoring.

Orange team player on receiving the pass must attempt to score in either of the two goals, but can only do so once the ball has crossed the line as shown by the blue cones.

Coaching points:

- Can the player in possession either use the U-Turn skill, or fake the U-Turn skill to beat the defender?

- First touch key, speed to get over the line quickly

- When performing the U-Turn, player should turn away from the defending player to shield the ball while turning.
