Midweek Session with the South Aspire Group.
It will be a challenge numerically as we have the boys and girls groups on the pitch concurrently, so we will predominantly need to use small sided exercises without Gk's (also a safety consideration).
We will need to find/allocate somebody to coach the GK's.
Focus more on technical issues with individuals. Look for the "Teachable Moments" for these interventions. However still look to continue the development of our key gameplay themes with and without the ball.

Coaches set up the playing area and keep responsibility for timekeeping. Players take responsibility for activity etc.

Pressure Cooker
Organisation - 3v3 in the box, players from each team set up on the outside of the box
Blues score by moving the ball from one side of the box to the other, reds likewise.
Teams can score direct or by using their players in the box.
Teams can pass back to the same side of the box but should only do so if they cannot play across to the other side.
Change the Game
V1.1 Players can carry into the box if they have space to exploit but a team mate must balance up by replacing them outside the box.
V1.2 Players can carry out of the box to get safe but the player on the outside must then replace them by moving into the box.
V2.0 If the team that didn't start with the ball regain possession in he box they must try to make three passes between themselves, the team that turned the ball over INCLUDING THEIR PLAYERS ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE BOX WHO CAN COLLAPSE INTO THE BOX, must try to regain the ball before they make the three passes. If they make three passes then they can play the ball out to their outside players and the game continues. If the collapsing side wins the ball back then they should get the ball out to a player who has moved back outside the box.
NOTES FOR COACHES
Watch for body positions allowing receiving "in direction"
Flat passes unless a low lift was appropriate/necessary
Eliminate unneccesary 3D especially on receipt (and especially if it is done out of habit!)
Watch for first touch enabling next action (pass or carry)
Encourage/reward go forward hockey (pull them up if they bunt it back to the outside and missed a chance to play forwards.
Watch spacing in the box from both teams.
For V2.0 , watch for anticipation of the turnover and quick reactions to collapse.
Disrupt, Deny, Dictate, Delay, Dispossess!!!!!!!

Organisation
Play 3 v 3 on a pitch as shown in the diagram. Set up three goals for each team to score in.
To score a goal teams must carry into one of the goals. They should then leave the ball and jump back to defend their three goals.
To change it up, when a goal is scored the scoring team should retain posession and Turn & Burn to score at the other end of the pitch.
Coaching points
Players should be looking to make good decisions about how best to go forward. Carry or pass? Players off the ball should be working to help their team to move forward by offering passing options or by clearing space/manipulating defenders.
Defenders should be working hard to deny space, slow the attacking team down, and ultimately to regain possession.
Technical
Receive In Direction (body position, feet, grip, stick head)
Face the way we want to play (body position, feet)
Maintain momentum with first touch (body position, feet, grip, stick head)
Flat (push) passing (head over ball, flat follow through, not too much bottom hand)
Frontal pressure (stick in 2 hands, stay on forehand, stay mobile, protect the space the ball carrier wants to use)
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Hockey images.
Organisation
Set up pitch as above.
3 attackers play v 2 defenders.
Have two defenders waiting in their defensive box.
If defenders in the ball and extra player joins them to make 3.
If the attackers lose the ball they can only defend the counter attack until the 1/2 way line
As soon as they get the ball over the 1/2 way line, the original attackers step off and recover to their station and two waiting defenders can step out of their defensive box.
Change it Up.
V1.1 Change it up to make it 3 v 3. Still have only two new defenders waiting and allow 1 player to jump back to create the 3v3
V1.2 Have three new defenders waiting and still llow one of the original attackers to jump back over the 1/2 way line to create a defensive overload.
NOTES FOR COACHES
Encourage quick play
Help players to make smart decisions especially:-
Who jumps back? How much pressure do we put on the ball when we lose it? How do we use our extra player when we have a defensive overload? How do we get our extra player into the game when we go from 2 to 3? How do we use our extra player when we have an attacking overload? How can we create an attaccking overload and exploit it? How can we create imbalances andcollapse the defense (fix and go)?
