Session designed to improve individual ball mastery
Five Elements of a Training Activity
1. ORGANIZED: Is the activity organized the right way?
2. GAME-LIKE: Is the activity game-like?
3. REPETITION: Is there enough repetition for the players, when looking at the overall goal of the session?
4. CHALLENGING: Are the players being challenged? Is there the right balance between being successful and unsuccessful?
5. COACHING: Is there effective coaching, based on the age and level of the players?
Self-Reflection Questions
1. How did you do in achieving the goals of the training session?
2. What did you do well?
3. What could you do better?

All players with a ball; everything starts and ends on their outer cone, with a specific technique being performed at or around their inner cone; use many reps isolating a specific foot and surface; then switch to opposite foot. Dribble in, turn, dribble out.
•Pull back, inside chop, outside of foot, two-move combinations such as step-over when dribbling in and then turn, etc.
Coaching Points:
1. Focus on quality with each technique and turn
2. Challenge players to end on a “perfect” rep
3. Controlled pace dribbling in (i.e. engaging the defender) and accelerate after complete turn (attack space)

Each group tries to use the same ball (have extra balls close by to keep exercise going when mistakes happen). Isolate specific surface on each foot for multiple reps. Player who serves the ball in then sprints to take the place inside the grid.
Variatons:
1. Pass in, receive, then dribble out with speed
2. Dribble in, turn, then pass ball back out to next player in line
3. Pass in, receive, then pass ball back out to next player in line
4. Throw-in, receive ball out of the air, speed dribble back to start
5. Counter move away, receive, dribble accelerate
6. Counter move away, show and receive, then turn to group on the right or left using outside of the foot
Coaching Points
1. Focus on quality when receiving the ball
2. Challenge players to end on a “perfect” rep
3. 1st touch directly into the dribble with pace
4. Sell the counter move to create space away from defender

2nd Play Phase: The Game
Objective: to be a more dynamic player when in possession of the ball
Qualities:
Emphasize first touch, take way from pressure; use different surfaces, counter-moves to create or get into open space, etc.
**Continue reinforcing elements of a clean and positive first touch, leading to more possession and attacking opportunities. Consider rewarding teams additional points where apply techniques covered in the first two stages, especially if they revert back to old habits.

Intentional Free Play (15 mins)
1st Phase Play: Intentional Free Play
**Don't give any instruction with this first part, just split them into teams and allow them to play.
1. Play for 6-7 minutes, then give a quick water break. Before they get a drink, ask them to think about how they can individually be a more dynamic player whenin possession of the ball
2. Come back from water break, and let them play another 6-7 minutes
3. End the game and then bring everyone together, asking them the same question: What is a way you can individually be a more dynamic player when in possession of the ball? Answer: better first touch, take way from pressure; use different surfaces, etc.
