Specific Practice
Welsh way Principle - Exploiting the overload
MD-2
Intensive
Blocks 3x5min
rest - 3x1 min
session Layout:
x15 Players
x2 mini-Goals
x1 Full Size goal
play will start from attacking team's goalkeeper passing into one of the advanced fullbacks will take the ball into oppositions final third to try and create a goalscoring opportunity, if opposition regain possession they must try to score into one of the mini goals.
Reds (Coached) formation 4-3-3 with CB's removed.
Blues (Opposition) Formation 4-2-3-1 with advanced midfiled 3 and CF removed.
Problem:
Opposition compact central areas with CB's and CDM's covering the middle section of the pitch
Solution 1:
Utilise 2 v 1's in wide areas to attack box triangles and try to turn defenders to face their own goal
Coaching points (Coached team):
Receive on back foot looking to take a positive first touch
Attack opposition FB direct with speed
Commit opposition WB and release the ball at optimal moment to open up the box triangle
If opposition are not set, cross low, and fast using the 6 yard box as a guide
If opposition set quickly stand cross up to far post or cut back to CM
If available use early crosses to turn defence around
Opposite AM attacks crosses late at far post
Maximise width and depth
Take risks in possession
Reference points:
FB's between 6 and 18, halfway between DM and ST
DM's inline with goalpost
Wide players s as high as possible and on the touchline
ST as high as possible between CB's, don't leave width of the box
.
