OBJECTIVE

Focus + Session design

  • Passing Practice to finish
  • 90 sec work, 30 sec rest
  • Follow pass
  • Set up as seen above 
  • Two practices working simultaneously (competition) 

Coaching detail collectively:

  • Take care of ball, concentration to do everything as well as you can, take pride in it. 
  • Make sure you emphasis on the movements, realism is vital
  • Be calm and composed but also clinical
  • Do the basics better than anyone else 

Coaching detail:

  • Weight of pass - punch it in, kick through centre of ball 
  • Double movement to lose mannequin
  • Receive back foot, in path/stride for second touch to be an accurate pass
  • Slipped pass through to attacker, play in front for first time finish. Weight of pass is key, play in attackers path.
  • Composure with the finish. Get head up, see where the keeper is set and where you can finish
  • Type of finish

Coaching detail

  • Longer pass now to start. Make sure pass is firm enough yet accurate. Want to play 1 touch so think about how you would want to receive it to allow that. 
  • Once first pass is played, trigger for nearside wide player to step in, have an open body position to allow reverse pass into stride of attacker to finish. Use different techniques, left foot switch or allow ball to roll across and punch it through with right foot.

U12 Shooting/Finishing with a combination15 mins

OBJECTIVE

3 lines of shooters set up 5 yards outside the 18 yd box

3 cones marketing the area

1 goalie in net to start (switch out goalies regularly)

-Red 4 dribbles towards a cone makes a move using a ball mastery move and then set up for a shot,

-After shooting Red 4 sets up a 1-2 with red 3

-Red 3 takes a shot

-Red 3 then sets up a 1-2 for Red 2.

-Red 2 shoots.

After each shot rotate to players right.

KEY FACTORS AND PROGRESSIONS

1st line Dribble towards a cone, make a ball mastery move, then take a positive touch to set up for a shot.

2nd line, play a pass to the player from line 1, receive the ball with a positive touch that sets you up for a shot,

3rd line repeat what the 2nd line does.

1. Create a positive touch so your set up with a shot.

2. Plant non kicking foot beside the ball, lift kicking leg and strike ball with instep aiming to one of the corners

3. Follow through to create pace.

PROGRESSION 1

Shoot using the laces players foot, try to create a bit more power

PROGRESSION 2 (you may skip this and skip to progression 3 depending on skill level)

Have player use non dominant foot

PROGRESSION 3 (see next slide)

After Red 4 shoots, they then have to defend Red 3 as they go in and shoot, Red 3 then has to defend Red 2 as they go in and shoot creating 1v1’s, Red 2 then defends Blue 2

SET UP

15x20yd grid

1 net 

11 players (if more create 2 grids to avoid long lines)

defenders line up beside goal off to the side

attackers up at the top of the grid.

OBJECTIVE

defenders play ball into attacker; attackers play a 2 v 1

If defenders win the ball they can play a pass to the 2 coaches out wide or dibble past the attacker's line.


COACHING POINTS

proper pass to start drill

ATTACKERS

 work with each other and communicate

-play an overlap, a 1-2, go direct to goal, make a pass pull defenders out of position, be supportive

DEFENDERS

-play attacker with the ball, position yourself so you can take the other attacker out of play.

Jockey, take space away, challenge the ball only when you can win it.
