Football/Soccer Session (Moderate): Uefa C licence Session 1 (Start Time: 2024-10-04 00:00:00)
Description
Challenges, Conditions & Targets:
Block1:
The challenge to the team out of possession is to press the ball and think about the how and when. The defending team are to protect the central areas and force the play wide, stopping shots and crosses while putting their bodies on the line. They are to work together to try and win the ball back as soon as they can. If they win the ball at any time they will counter attack the opposition.
Encourage the opposition to be brave on the ball and encourage the players to be creative in how the manipulate the defensive players. Potentially limit the players touches / time on the ball especially in the attacking half. You may as the coach want to manage a countdown to make the practice as realistic as possible. The coach is to encourage players to stay 'onside' in the attacking half to ensure realism for the defending players.
Only 2 defenders (red team) can press high, on oppositions half.
To facilitate the creation of finishing opportunities to the attacking team (Blues), reds are not allowed to press the players in the wide areas in grey.
Block 2:
Defenders can now step into the grey area to press and tackle the wide players.
Big emphasis on the GK to join the attacking phase for the blues in order to create an overload, 5v4.
If the defenders stay deep, encourage the attacking team to shoot from distance to trigger defenders to press with urgency.
Only 2 players can press high still.
Block 3:
Drop all rules/conditions.

General Practice / Defending the Final Third
Welsh Way Principles
Protect the middle / force wide / stop-defend the cross / body on the line
Organisation / Area Size:
Area size is 36m x 44 (2 x 18 Yard boxes).
Explanation:
The practice starts by one of the GKs rolling the ball to the attackers (blue team).
There is a 5v5 with the emphasis on the team in possession to find solutions in the 'final third'.
This gives the coach the opportunity to work with players in terms of the Welsh Way Principles of defending the final third. If the red team win the ball they keep possession and get their passes in (minimum of three) before adhering to the 'in possession' principles of play. They will be limited to one counter attack though as we want the opposition to have the ball as much as possible.
How:
The coach will only work with ONE team to Defend the Final Third, EG the reds here, on the 'out of possession' principles of play. The opposition (blues) are to maintain realism in and out of possession but wont be coached at any point. If the red team are in possession they MUST adhere to the 'in possession' principles of play but will only counter attack once if they win possession.
