Description

Attitude: INTENSITY, energy and drive is required. A proactive mindset, being accountable to quickly press when possession is lost. 

What?: improve the ability the moment in which we go from in possession to out of possession, we want to press and win the ball back in that defensive transition

Where?:  In the attacking third, central area from the end line to the top of the box the  middle of the half.

Who?: #6,#8,#10,#9

When?: The moment in which we are dispossessed in the final third.

Why?:  The what is not happening due to technical errors, such as over committed on the ball,understanding when to delay and tackle.

Organization:

  • 3 teams of 4 
  • 40x40
  • 4 pugg goals

Instructions:

  • 2 teams in possession and one team defending
  • The two teams in possession look to maintain possession and connect 5 passes for 1pt.
  • The defending team looks to press and win the ball. When the defending wins the ball they look to directly attack one of the four goals. 

Coaching Points/Questions:

  • Commitment to the press, must press in a compact balanced shape.
  • Once possession is won, we must take advantage of a unbalanced un-organized defensive and directly attack the goal

Counter Pressing v Positional Possession (25 mins)

Organization: 

36L x 30W - Rondo area 8x8

6x2.5mins - each team attack and defends three times 

Defending team rotate players in to maintain fresh 

Instructions: 5v2 Rondo to start activity, 8 passes = 1pt. 

When ball is won the 2 players in ball recovery mode they connect pass to players positioned in team shape outside in bigger area. 

5 players in red look to counter press and recover ball, once recovered they can score in either large sided goal = 2pts

Team in possession mode score point by connecting 8 passes = 1pt - attacking directional to RED goal - 3pts 

Coaching Points/Questions: Team in recovery mode press in team shape (close to it as possible), sprint all the way and together when decision is made to go and attempt to recover the ball. Take direct pathway to goal. Team in possession - Quick ball movement & positional discipline.

Organization:

3x6mins 

Instructions: 

New attack is triggered when the ball leaves end line or goal is scored 

Play throw in's and offsides 

Change starting point so to bring out different runs ahead of the ball - overlap and under lap

The team counter pressing looks to win the ball back in the oppositions half, with all players pushed up in positions to counter press immediately

Coaching Points:

Technical: ability to close down attacker quickly while in control

-body shape

-When to tackle and when to contain

Tactical: Recognize the pressing of teammates and balance it (2nd and 3rd defender)

-Becoming compact before counter pressing to prevent opposition from play through us.

Instructions:

  • Team 1 looks to build through the thirds and attack in the middle channel.
  • Once Team one losses possession, they look to immediately counter press and go directly to goal

  • When to delay and when to tackle? If you are the 1st defender/ first one pressing the ball in the counter press, are the rest of your teammates in a compact shape yet? or do you need to delay until they are
