Activity 2 - Across the Galaxy15 mins

Organisation

- Area Size same as previous

- 8 to 10 players

- All players with a ball each

- red cones act as perimeter

- All other cones are scattered randomly across the area and are called planets

Activity Instruction

- All players are asked to dribble their ball across the galaxy (area) but have to try and avoid the different planets.

- During the first round let players dribble freely for one minute to get used to the area

- In the proceeding rounds players are given different tasks to complete

1) Can players get as many touches as they can with their weaker foot.

2) Everytime they change direction at a planet they earn 1 point (Remphasise the use of a drag back and sole roll)

3) Players are timed to see if they can earn as many points as they can in one minute. Coach comes around and asks the players to tell him but not everybody else (task focused). Following round can they beat their personal score?

4) In the final round players once players turn on a cone they can pick it up and keep it. Round is over once all cones are collected (make it easier for transition into next activity). Whoever has collected the most cones wins the round.

Coaching points

- Dribbling mechanics reinforced when appropriate

- Encourage players to use the drag back and sole roll to turn and dribble away from the planet

Activity 3 - Star Wars (1v1 game)20 mins

Organisation

- Players seperated in two equal teams.

- 2 Mini goals at either end of area

- Extra balls located near attacking team for quick restarts

- Area size same as previous

Activity Instruction

- As pictured above red team begins as attacking team whilst blue defend

- First red player in line will play 1v1 against a blue player at front of opposing queue.

- Red player dribbles to superdome cones at the centre before deciding what mini goal to score in

- If blue player wins the ball they can score in either goal

- If red or blue player score they earn 1 point for their team

Coaching points

- Encourage previous dribbling mechanics (keep ball close etc)

- Change of speed to get away from defender

- Encourage players to do a drag back or sole roll and award 10 points if they score from it.

- Can you dribble towards one goal and change direction to go towards the other one? Ask players which goal has the most space near it if defender is blocking one of them?

Progressions

- Players rewarded for doing turns even if they don't score (task focused).

- Players have to change direction in order to score a goal.

- The number of turns completed = amount of goals scored. Max 3 turns = 3 goals etc.
