Big Bad Wolf (15 mins)

Practice Organisation

Using cones, mark out a 20 x 20 yard field

Each player has a ball

Designate one player as the "wolf" (yellow) or coach

Sequence

The "wolf" stands on one sideline, holding a ball. The other players stand on the opposite sideline with balls at their feet.

The wolf yells: "Who's afraid of the big bad wolf?" The group answers: "No one!" Wolf: "What if I come after you?" Group: "We'll run away!"

The players dribble to the other side, and the wolf tries to tag as many of them as possible.

Each player tagged becomes another wolf.

Which player is the last to be tagged?

Key Coaching Points

Games that build agility with or without the ball should be a regular part of "training."

Dribbling Agility (20 mins)

Practice Organisation

Mark out a 20 x 20 yard field

Divide players into two teams of equal size

Set up six agility poles inside the field for each team

Players start and finish at one side

Sequence

Dribble down as desired, coach "control" and a fluid "change of direction"

Use inside and outside of the feet, hook turns, to navigate the agility poles

After turning the last agility pole, exit the field via the gates as quickly as possible

On the return run, work on skill moves...faints - step overs - cut backs

Key Coaching Points

Players should focus on keep the ball close to their feet, quality over speed

Variations: dominant foot only, weak foot only, both feet

Can we use the sole of the foot to stop the ball and restart during the exercise?

Progression

Each player dribbles around the agility poles and runs to the far endline

Players shoot as soon as they near the goal, at least 5 yards away

Which team can score more goals in five minutes?

Sequence

If attackers score, they keep the ball and start a new attack in the opposite direction

Which team can score the most goals in four minutes?

Afterwards, one team from the field switches with the team at the goal.
