3v3 Wave Game (15 mins)

Practice Aim

  • Main: Rest defence concepts
  • Secondary: Creative /Inventive attacking play
Process
  • The game starts with a 3v3
  • Thein-possession team (Team A) attempts to score againstthe out-of-possession team (Team C).
  • Two teams arewaiting on the outside as shown (Team B and Team D).
  • Once Team A has had a shot, the Team B playerwaiting on the outside with the ball plays their ball inimmediately to start a counter-attack.
  • The two otherTeam B players waiting on the side are allowed to enterthe pitch as soon as Team A have taken their shot.
  • Theteam that conceded the shot (Team C) moves to theoutside to rest
  • If the goalkeeper saves the shot, the counter-attack canbe started directly from the goalkeeper rather than theplayer who is waiting next to the goal.
  • This cycle continues at the opposite end of the pitch, with Team A leaving the pitch once they concede a shotand Team D becoming the in-possession team.
Scoring Rules
  • If the team score direct from a pass thats played in from the waiting player its worth double
  • Have to be in the opposite half to score
Coaching

Rest Defending in particular the following
  • Think about positions and how this will affect theirability to defend against a direct ball forward once theball has been turned over.
  • Anticipation even when in possession as to the transition moments
Timing
  • 3 x 3 min

Practice Aim

  • Rest defence in possession
  • Counter Pressing
  • Quick Forward Runs
  • Recovery Runs
Process
  • Team A look to keep the ball and score in the goal; they are locked into the half they are playing in
  • Team B look to win the ball and then link with the attacking player (who cannot score) or drive across (but cannot score)
  • If Team A score then they keep the ball and play again
  • If the ball goes out of play then we start in the side in which it went out
  • In possession can you use the free player and create space in which to get a shot off
Non Working Team
  • S&C Work
Time Work

Coaching
  • Setting a shape behind the ball in anticipation
  • Is there numbers around the ball to move quickly and /or counterpress
  • Can you stop the initial first pass forward and instead force backwards
  • If first pass is made back /lateral can you "lock on" to the nearest passing options and press
  • Upon a forward ball can you get between attacker and goal

  • Can only use the Neutral within your attacking half
  • Winner stays on

Scoring

  • The amount of passes in the attacking half before a goal = value of the goal
  • Win the ball back in the high half following a turnover then goal = 2
  • Score in the opponent goal in less than 2 passes after winning back in your half = 2
