Hockey Session (Under 16s): Outlet & Transfer Passing

6 Point Passing Star (10 mins)

Set up: 3 backs and Center Mid on each side, boards in between either backs or outside backs & midfielder to simulate passing around defenders. Center Mids should use quick 1 touch passes, everyone else passes and receives ball on the move. At least 10 players needed.

A: Ball starts on each side with Right Back who dribbles inside on diagonal and passes into wide space to Right Mid/Left Back. Left Back passes to open central player, either Center Back or Center Mid, who plays 1-2 pass with other central player before passing to Right Back, and passing sequence continues.

B: Switch Direction. Ball starts on each side with Left Back who dribbles inside on diagonal and passes into wide space to Left Mid/Right Back. Right Back passes to open central player, either Center Back or Center Mid, who plays 1-2 pass with other central player before passing to Left Back, and passing sequence continues.

4v4v4 Pressing Game (20 mins)

Set up: 3 teams of 4 in 2 grids with 5 meter gap in between (blue markers). Two teams (attack) attempt to keep the ball away from the third team (defense). Only the defending team can send players into the center zone.

Attack Objective: A team of 4 attempts to move ball from one grid to other (across blue lines) to gain a point.

Defense Objective: Defending team splits into two groups of 2, one group defends one grid the ball is in while the second group moves into the center zone. 1st defender pressures the opponent with the ball to force a bad pass. 2nd defender covers the space behind the 1st defender, ready to intercept a pass if possible, or become 1st defender if necessary.

Transition: When defending team wins possession of the ball, they attempt to play the ball to the team waiting in the opposite grid to score a point; they keep 2 players in the central zone until ball is

played across to other side (players in middle may help in transfering the ball to the opposite side), while the team who lost possession keeps all 4 players in that zone until the ball in transfer to other grid.
