Warm up - combination (20 mins)

Organization:

- quarter field, set up as per diagram

- 10-12 players, pinnies, balls, cones

- set up 2 stations aslarge triangles ( 12 x 12 ), 6 player / station

Play starts with Player 1 ( calls " man on" ) passing ball to Player 2 ( check in / out), who passes back and runs around back cone( or player), to receive again from Player 1. Then he pass ( call "man on") ball to Player 3 who passes back to Player 2 before running around his cone ( opponent player), to receive on the other side.

Work on both feet. Try to do it all in 1 touch, if possible.

Coaching points:

- make the right call, at right time ( Man on)

- good first touch, receive on the back foot,

- accuracy, pace, weight of the pass, mobility

- quick turn and acceleration

2 v 1 to 3 v 2 (30 mins)

Organization:

- quarter field, set up as above in diagram

- nets,, cones, pinnies, balls

- 10 -12 players , includung a GK

Play starts with player A passing to B, who get a first touch and attack the center of the field. On his first touch, defender from diagonal corner, comes in to defend. Player A, makes own decision to support, either by running aside or overlap, depending on B intention ( position towards the net ).

Next ball is played from B to A, and repeat sequence.

Progresion 1.

If succesfull in a 2 v 1, introduce the trailing defender for a 2 v 2 and then a 3rd attacker to create a 3 v 2 situation.

Play with offside. Create different combination play scenarios in 3 v 2 plays

Coaching points:

- good first touch, attack with speed

- attack front foot of defender and space behind defender

- timming, weight of the pass

- good finishing (laces, follow through, power behind ball etc)

SSG (20 mins)

SSG

- 5 V 5 or 6 v 6 game.

- have 2 or 3 gates on each side of the pitch.

Teams try to score on any of the gates, by keeping possession of the ball, combination plays, switching side. Min 3 players from each team , must touch the ball before team attempt to score.

A goal is score if one player dribble the ball through a gate and finish with foot on ball behind the gate.

when ball is out, switch possession.

Coaching points:

- play with your head up, look for space

- 1-2 touches, make the right calls ( " man on", " open up", " turn")

- mobility, movement of the ball to create space

- play calm but quick, keep possession
