8v7 Attack In Final Third (15 mins)
Organisation : Overloading attack in final third (4v3)
The objective is for our three midfielders to pass between themselves in a triangle before one player turns out quickly to trigger the the attack. The attacking front three will make movements to break into space and receive the ball in behind the opposition back three before delivering for their team- mates to finish or can combine when they create a 2v1 overload to create the play wide to cross.
If the defenders win possession, they can break out to score in either of the two mini- goals, by including the GK they can create a 4v3 overload. (The midfielder who started the attack must come out of play)
Coaching Points:
1. Quick turn to trigger the attack
2. Off the ball movement to get in behind the opposition defence (Inside/Outside runs)
3. Accurate and varied crosses into the box to find attacking players
- Across the face then Low and hard into area of vulnerability
- Get near end line then pullback
- If deeper then high to back post
4. Passing quality (alternate between left and right side to ensure both sides are getting worked)
Opposition Roles:
1. Can we try get forward pass/shot into mini goals
2. If that's not an option can we be composed on the ball and wait for support and look to find a teammate
3. Can we use the GK as a pivot and use to our advantage for a 4v3 overload
Notes:
In Possession:
Never stand on the ball, can we engage a player and create an overload
Passing weight needs to be perfect
Triggers for players off the ball need to be perfect as crossers will know where to put the ball
Be ruthless in-front of goal
Opposition:
Communication of GK + Defenders is vital to not let them break through
Assess there touch, if they take a bad touch can we get a tackle in
We need to move realistically and make sure someone is always pressing with other 2 making it compact behind
Player Questions:
1. What type of through ball options does the midfielder have when playing through?2. How can you improve your movement in behind to lose your defensive marker?
3. Where are the spaces to deliver into and where are your teammates making their runs?
4. What is the area we are looking to hit at A/B/C area?
5. Can you move the opposition player with a run off the ball?
Progression:
1. 2 Midfielders can join the attack to create a 5v3 overload instead of a 4v3
