Part 1 (20 mins)

Key Factors

  • Start off with a throw 
  • Volley 
  • Off the floor 
  • then provide a variety of service
  • Don't coach the cup - just the W and Set 

Organisation

Line of cones/ or hurdle used for GK to step over (encourage them to seek out different ways to travel)

Start off calling Set - to trigger the response we look for in terms of mechanics 

Progress - to the player looking for usual cues of the server kicking the ball - discuss with the players what those visual cues look like.



KCP

  • Feet around shoulder width apart
  • Weight should be forward - GK slightly on balls of feet
  • Nose in front of toes
  • Elbows narrow - slightly bent - chest facing the ball
  • Hands need to be in front of body line
  • Ensure W Shape is only used for chest and above 
  • W - Thumbs together
  • W - Eyes fixed on the ball
  • W - Elbows slightly bent
  • W - Weight Forwards

Part 2 (15 mins)

Key Factors

  • Variety of service to allow the GK to explore W technique 
  • Allow GK to try a range of footwork when travelling to see what is more effective. 
  • Discuss what the triggers are to knowing someone will shoot

Organisation

  • x players a pass to GK
  • GK travels from one cone to another
  • Set for a serve at other cone with x
  • P - at end of the cones sets and players ball to s - GK travels across the goal for a shot
  • S plays to X 

KCP

  • Discussion of how they would move across line an towards goal

Screen 3 (20 mins)

Key Factors

  • Emphasis on focusing on Set position and W technique - middle area to limit focus on diving. 
  • Have an element to apply the footwork
  • Encourage the keeper to be set when they have to become active (the trigger of the ball being player to the striker)
  • Don't be ridged in the Set

Organisation

  • 1 will serve the ball to 2 - Be ready for the set with variety of realistic serving. 
  • 2 will then pass the ball into space for 1 to shoot at the GK (3)
  • If shooter scores in middle posts is 5 points - out wide 1 point. 

KCP

  • Head, elbow, knees, toes, Hands
  • Recognising the trigger when to set 
  • W Technique when above chest
