Technical Drill- Set Up 1

Key Factors

The Skills Corridor

The key to this drill is to offer players an opportunity to experiment with the moves and turns and gain a large number of touches of the ball. It is key that as a coach you ensure the players are completing the moves correctly.

Organisation

Set up with 3 channels, a wide central channel and two narrower side channels. Players have a ball each or as close to it as possible and line up at the base of the central channel, and will work 3 at a time. On the coaches call the first three players will take the ball and cross the central channel.

The one rule as they cross is that they must hit both edges of the channel, completing a turn at each one. When the players get to the end, they mst return to the start using the side channels, in these channels, they must complete a Nomads skill.

Once the first set of players have exited the top of the channel, the next three can go.

Technical Drill- Part 2

Key Factors

This drill is designed to build on the previous unoppose practice and encroauge decision making and the ability to dominate in 1v1 situations.

Organisation

The lay out for this drill is the same as the previous drill. In this progression there is a defender in each of the side channels and at the end of the central channel, and at each of these is a small goal.

The players begin as previous, with 3 going at a time and crossing the central channel having to hit both sides of the channel. When they get to the end of the channel, one player moves into each of the side channels and one attacks the central goals. They will battle with the defenders in a 1v1 before trying to score in one of the goals.

Once the play has been completed, the attacking players become the defenders and the defenders get the balls and return to the back of the line.

Skill Drill- Set Up 1

Key Factors

The purpose of this drill is to force the players into 1v1 situations with the aim of imporoving close control, speed of thought and execution and decision making.

Organisation

Set up two identical pitches (use either mini goals with no keepers, or normal goals with keepers)

Split the players into 2 teams of 4 players on each pitch and position the players as seen in the animation, with 1 team with all the balls.

One of the players with a ball plays the ball diagonally across the pitch. The receiving players must take a touch and attempt to beat the passing player in a 1v1 and score a goal.

The attacking players mut cross the half way line before trying to score.

Repeat on the opposite side.

Play for 3/4 minutes and then swap roles.

Skill Drill- Set Up 2

Key Factors

This drill builds on the work of the previous drill, but requires more decision making utilising the overloads.

Organisation

This drill begins in the same way, with a red player playing a diagonal ball across to one of the blue players. As soon as the recieving player touches the ball, they and one other blue player attack to create a 2v1 against the passing red player (they must cross the half way line before shooting).

As soon as the blue players shot is in or out, two reds enter the field with a ball to create a 3v2 agasint the two blue players. Thy attack the blue goal and must be over the half way line before they can shoot.

Once this 3v2 is over, everyone returns to their spot and the session begins again.

Play 3/4 minutes and then swap roles.
