Dynamic Warmup & Activation

Organization:

- Set up as shown.

- Area approximately 30m x 20m as the players complete the various strength, plyometric and balance exercises.

Instructions:

The athletic coach lead the players through the following exercises:

Part 1.

- The Bench One Leg Lift and Hold.

- Sideways Bench with Leg Lift.

- Hamstrings.

- Single leg stance Test your partner.

- One Leg Squats.

- Box Jumps

Part 2

- Running across the pitch -Run approx. 30-40 metres across the pitch at 75 – 80% of maximum pace and then jog the rest of the way. Jog back at an easy pace. Do the exercise twice.

- Running bounding- Take a few warm-up steps then take 6 – 8 bounding steps with a high knee lift and jog the rest of the way. With each bound, try to lift the knee of the leading leg as high as possible and swing the opposite arm across the body. Jog back at an easy pace to recover. Do the exercise twice.

- Running Plant and Cut- Jog four to five steps straight ahead. Then plant on the right leg and cut to change direction to the left and accelerate again. Sprint for 5 – 7 steps (at 80 – 90% of maximum pace) before you decelerate and plant on the left foot and cut to change direction to the right. Repeat the exercise until you reach the other side of the pitch, then jog back. Do the exercise twice.

Part 3.

The final part of the dynamic warm up and activation finishes with a rondo / boxes in which the athletic coach also incorporates some team bonding tasks i.e: the coach instructing the players to get in groups of two's or three's. The last group of players or the players that were left out will do 10 push-ups / press-ups. The athletic coach also include some other fun activities at intervals while the players are playing rondos / boxes.

Organization:

- Set up as shown.

- 7v7+2GKs.

Instructions:

- Reds will look to play out from the back when in possession while Blues will look to press aggressively to regain possession and score.

- The exercise starts with the Blue team GK playing into one of the CBs or FBs.

- Reds are looking to break opposition (Blues) pressure and looking to score in any of the three small goals.

- If the Blues are successful in regaining possession, they need to combine and score quickly in Reds large goal within 10 seconds of regaining possession.

- Once a goal is scored by either team, or the Blues don't manage to score within 10 seconds of regaining possession, the play automatically restarts from the Reds GK..

- No one is allowed in the blue zone except the Blues GK, which means that the Reds can only score from outside of the scoring zone.

- Blues GK can use make saves with his hands and feet.

- Controlled possession when looking to playing out from the back.

- Recognizing when to play through pressure or around pressure.

- Recognizing moments to recycle and moments to switch play

Key Coaching Points (When pressing):

- Make it compact both vertically and horizontally.

- Always press in the identified situations.

- React quickly to pressing triggers.

Instructions:

- Reds will look to play out from the back when in possession while Blues will look to press aggressively in a midblock to regain possession and score.

- The exercise starts with the Blue team GK playing into one of the CBs or FBs to initiate a CB/FB drive.

- Reds are looking to break opposition (Blues) pressure and looking to score in any of the three small goals.

- If the Blues are successful in regaining possession, they need to combine and score quickly in Reds large goal within 10 seconds of regaining possession.

- Once a goal is scored by either team, or the Blues don't manage to score within 10 seconds of regaining possession, the play automatically restarts from the Reds GK..

- No one is allowed in the blue zone except the Blues GK, which means that the Reds can only score from outside of the scoring zone.

- Blues GK can use make saves with his hands and feet, this will allow the GK to work on his low dives.

- CBs/FBs should drive with speed to draw in opposition press before looking to realease the ball.

- Controlled possession when looking to playing out from the back.

- Recognizing when to play through pressure or around pressure.

- Recognizing moments to recycle and moments to switch play

- Pressure the player with the ball, cover and balance.

- Make it compact both vertically and horizontally.

- Always press in the identified situations.

- React quickly to pressing triggers.

Phase of Play 3 - vs Low Block Press

Organization:

- Set up as shown.

- 9v9+2GKs.

Instructions:

- This POP is a progression of the functional practice.

- Reds will look to play out from the back when in possession while Blues will look to sit back and defend in a low-block.

- Reds CB will look to drive forward past the half-way line and then make a full stop by putting the bottom of the foot on the ball to provoke opposition #9 to press. Once the opposition #9 takes the bait, CB will look to release the ball.

- Reds are looking to break opposition (Blues) low-block and score in opposition large goal.

- If the Blues are successful in regaining possession, they need to combine and score by working the ball into the yellow zone either by pass or by dribble within 10 seconds of regaining possession.

- Once a goal is scored by either team, or the Blues don't manage to score within 10 seconds of regaining possession, the play automatically restarts from the Reds GK.
