Global: 1v1 shoot and defend (15 mins)

Organization:

- Pinnies for half of the players on one side

- Cones for goals and 2 goals on each side with different colours

- Cone on each end at the side as the starting point for each team

Instructions:

- First player gets a free shot on goal. Immediately after shot is taken, player from other team dribbles immediately with speed to score on opposition's goal. First player then defends.

- Every player who takes a shot on goal, transitions to defense to stop attack.

- Player goes back to team line.

Progression:

- Coach holds up a cone colour that shows which goal the player must score in.

- Give the attacker a limited amount of time to score. Count down the seconds to impress intensity and time pressure.

Hold a goal scoring contest between teams.

Coaching Points:

- On balls of feet before dribbling out.

- Big touch out of waiting area to get maximum speed, then good control (big touches or small) depending on where defender is. Touches need to be away from pressure.

- Inside foot ball strike for accuracy and placement in small goal

- Use left and right foot to score.

Analytical: Dribble and shoot (15 mins)

Organization:

- Set up two playing areas exactly the same

- A dribbling area about 10x5

- 3 cones about 2 feet total width in front of goal about 10 yards out from goal

- 5 cones of different colour from defence cones to show perimeter to not cross before taking shot on goal. About 5 yards away from defense line cones

Instructions:

- Players select a number 1-6 with no duplications on one side

- Players dribble and perform skills that the coach gives them, sole rolls, tip taps, scissors, etc.

- Coach calls out a number and players must dribble quickly toward centre cones that act as defence. Get around defence line cones and then shoot to goal. Shooting with inside of foot for placement of ball.

- Players can decide to go left or right of defence cones.

Coaching Points:

- Touch step dribble with ball close

- Bend back, bend knees when executing move and skill, lower centre of gravity

- Use body movement to confuse opponent, shoulder drop

- Get away from defence with a good wide touch and not too close in front.

- A big controlled touch out of dribbling area to get maximum speed for attack

- Coach must maintain intensity with dribbling and shots on goal.

Progression:

- Contest between teams with who gets goal first.

- Put balls on goal cones for extra points if ball is knocked off with direct hit.

Global: SSG (20 mins)

Organization:

- Use full court

- Divide in 2 teams with Pinnies for one team

- 3 cones on each end with a ball on each

- Cones about 7 - 8 yards away indicating no scoring area beyond that line

- Use centre court lines at boundaries for specific positions i.e. striker and defenders

Instructions:

- Players must try to shoot from outside of shaded area and try to knock ball off cone. If they succeed, put ball back on cone.

- One point for each ball knocked off.

- No scoring is allowed in shaded area.

Progressions:

- Defensive Players may not cross half court and strikers also cannot cross into own half. Midfielders must stay in middle third and cannot leave that area.

Coaching Points:

- Good first touch and ball control

- Adjust body to receive, open up

- Scan for space and run away from pressure with quick turns and accelleration

- Decision making (when to dribble or pass)

- Communication (verbal and non-verbal)

- Go for goal with a strike at the right time. Don't wait for the defender to block goal.
