Passers vs Dribblers (10 mins)
Organization:
- Approx 24 x 12 yd area
- 2 teams of 4 players, 1 team all players with ball, other team share 1 ball
Instructions:
- Team dribbling the ball must try to hold possession for as long as they can. And take on players by beating them with a move = 1 pt
- Passers will try to disrupt dribbling players by passing into their ball.
- Allow each team a few rounds before switching roles
Coaching Points:
- PoP: Creativity, Penetration
- Dribbling Technique: Quality, Distance of touch, Direction, Deception when needed
- Communication: Verbal and Non-verbal to ensure passing effectiveness and speed of play
- Scanning the field to be proactive and have decisions formulated prior to receiving the ball.
- Decision making- When to go, when to keep it
Progressions:
P1- If the space allows and players require a greater challenge, allow passers to knock their ball into the ball in possession, ending the possession time.
R1- To allow more success for the attackers, take two soccer balls away from the dribblers, and they must now work together to disrupt possession and/or move the ball around to put themselves in a position to tag the player with the ball.
