THE SESSION:
Area: 40m x 40m with two small goals at one end and two end zones along the side.
Players split into two equal teams, no GKs
Normal game to begin with players playing 5v5 with the purpose of scoring into mini goals.
Whenever coach shouts Light Switch' players must change direction and transition into an end zones game. Players must be able to reach quickly to recognise where/how they need to defend to prevent opposition taking advantage of open spaces. Players can score goal in end zone by player receiving pass or dribbling into an end zone.
PROGRESSIONS:
- Allow 1 player on each team to control the switch when out of possession - this will hopefully allow them to think about the game and what space they have and can protect
KEY MESSAGES/POINTS:
- Quick transitions
- Recognise defensive responsibilities in changing environment
- Communication
- Denying Space
- Delaying Opposition to give us chance to reorganise
- Use LFC role models
- Use LFC values

Game Related Practice
Organization:
Each team keeps an attacking player (forward) in the attacking half. Waves of 2 red players come into the field to create a 3v2 against the blues in the attacking half. As the blue team wins the ball or goalkeeper makes a save, the blues look to immediatey counter and get into their attacking half as quickly as possible to create a 3v2 against the reds. Once the 2 attacking players either lose the ball or get a shot on goal, they rotate back to the beginning of their line. Games are played first to 5 goals wins and then change the forward player on each team.
Coaching Points:
forward running, forward thinking, forward passing, isolate 2v1 in the 3v2 situation, commit numbers forward early, create chances as early as possible, crosses in dangerous areas and shots on target

Organization: - half field or similar size
- 7v6 or similar

- defending #1,2,3,4,5,6,8
Instructions: - attacking team play to big goal
- defending team to counter endzone - pass or dribble
- play restarts from coach if needed, let the game flow - play defending team so attacking team needs to win possession and counter attack
Coaching Points: - quick transition to attack after possession is won
- provide support, push up fast in dangerous spaces
- exploit the opponent when unbalanced/disorganized - don't hesitate
- forward movements off the ball when in possession - 7/9/11
- attack goal right away after possession is won - create a scoring chance within 3-5secs after winning possession

See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Organization: - two 30x20 areas
- counter endzone or counter goals, big goal +GK
- attacking team 6/7/8/10/11 in middle area - 9 in attacking area
- defending team 6/8/10 in middle area - 4/5 in their defending area
- all others in middle area
Instructions: - play always starts with defending 6/8/10 team
- attacking team needs to win possession, play target 9 and push into attacking area to score
- defending team scores in counter endzone or goals for points
Coaching Points: - quick transition to attacking - up to support for second ball
- exploit the opponent when unbalanced/disorganized - don't wait, 9 anticipates and checks to receive
- keep the ball when you can't play forward - don't just kick it up
- push the defensive line up - easier to counter press
How fast can we break?
Can we play forward before the opposition recovers?
Progressions: - make attacking zone whole width and add in attacking 7/11 and added defending 2/3 for a 4v3 in attacking area
Regressions: - 1v1 in attacking area, only 9 and 4
