Warm Up

Tag-game with gates: every player has a ball, except for the tagger. Tagger tries to tag all the other players. Players need to dribble the ball away from him/her. If player get tagged they will be frozen with their legs wide open: a teammate needs to get closer, kick their ball between the frozen player's leg and say out loud "Megs" (from nutmeg), then the player is good to move again.

Safe spot: in between the gate, players can be safe by doing some specific foot skills (toe taps, tic tocs, scissors, or whatever else the coach asks). Players can only stay there for 5 seconds, then they need to move.

Each 1 minute round, rotate the tagger.

Time: 8-10 minutes

Dribbling drill

Dribbling drill: with the same set up, players now have a ball each, and they need to dribble the ball going through the gate: who can get the biggest amount of gates in 1 minute?

First round players dribble the way is convenient for them, and for the next rounds, they can only dribble the way coach asks for:

- laces

- inside-outside foot (one touch/two touches each part)

- sole (body sideways)

- right foot-left foot (again, one/two touches each)

* Progression: now, we give pinnies to 2,3 players: they are the defenders for the game. They need to run around and block the gates standing in between the cones. If the gate is blocked, players need to switch their directions and go for a new one. Ask them to count how many gates they got. Rotate defenders.

Coaching points: I can see the defender coming to block my way (gate), what should I do?; Where is the space in this field?; What part of my foot  can I use to dribble the ball faster? What part of my foot should I use when I wanna have more control of it and keep it closer?

Time: 15-20 minutes (a water break in between it).

1v1

1v1 situation: players will play now a 1v1 situation. Players with the ball are the attacking team. There is one defender in the game. First player in the line dribbles in and try to score in one of the two small nets in the side. After the play, the player that just tried to score needs to turn, and become the next defender. As soon as the play is over, a new offensive player dribbles the ball in, and try to score against the new defender.

Make sure they understand that it's a fast pace game. Each goal its +1 point. Who can get the biggest amount of points?

Rotation:

- Striker becomes the next defender

- Defender that just played go get the ball and return to the line

- Next player in line dribbles to become the next striker

Time: 12-15 minutes

Coaching points: Where is the space? ;Can you dribble the ball with control in the space to avoid the pressure?; I have space, should I take a big or small touch? I don't have space, how my touch should be now?; The pressure is coming towards me, should I keep going straight? Should I change my directions?

Game time: two teams facing each other in a Small sided game. Coach makes two end zones with cones (grey lines). They play regular way, but if the player has the ball before the grey line, and they are able to dribble the ball in towards the grey line, they will have a 3 seconds free play to try to score. After the 3 seconds, the defender can try to get the ball from him/her.

* We play this rule to make sure the player, when they have space, will dribble in to use the space available.

Coaching points: I have space, can I dribble in?; Pressure is coming from the front, what should I do?; Pressure is coming from my back, should I keep going? If yes, what part of my foot should I use to dribble and get speed?
