The diagonal game is great for working on off the ball runs and communication.

1) The black players on each end of the grid are neutral players and can move along the baseline.

2) In this diagram the red players are offense and need to be diagonal to each other at all times. If a red player is in grid 1 the other red player needs to be in grid 4. They can rotate around into any grid as long as they remain diagonal.

3) In this diagram the blue player are defending. Defenders do not need to be diagonal but they can not cross the half-line. One blue player defends grids 1 & 2 while the other defends grids 3 & 4.

The red team needs to get the ball from one end of the large grid and back in order to score a point. They must remain diagonal at all times with their other red teammate. If the yellow team wins the ball they now become the offense and must remain diagonal to each other. The red team then would be the defenders. Rotate teams every 5 minutes.

Coaching Points:

1) Off the ball movement.

2) Communication is key in this game.

3) Vision is important in order to see opportunities for splitting the defense or sending a pass down the line or resetting.

4) Proper weight on passes and quality first touchs.
