Description

- Start without stick and ball.
- Players move around in the area you define.
- The focus is on changing pace.
- Hold up cones to indicate change of pace: yellow for walk, green for run, red for stop.
- Add more instructions / cone colours - change direction, side step, run backwards.
- Progress to adding stick and ball.
- Use the red/stop command to demonstrate a strong ball carrying position.

SET UP
- Overload of attackers vs defenders. Eg, 4 v 2.
- Aim for the attackers is to get as many balls as they can in the goal. They must carry (dribble) one ball at a time to the yellow cones before shooting.
- Aim for the defenders is to intercept as many balls as they can and knock them out of play.
- If an attacker loses their ball, they go back and get another one. If they score, they go back and get another ball to try again.
- Once there are more attackers than balls, how can they work together to score goals? (Passing!)
- Rotate the defenders after each round. Which is the most successful defending pair?
Once everyone has had a turn as defenders, break down elimination skills to focus on technique and then return to this activity.
Can players see an improvement in their elimination skills?

SET UP
- 1 v 1
- Look at different ways of effectively eliminating a player -
- Pace.
- Change of direction.
- Drag right / drag left.
- V drag.
- Roll out.
- Partner (defender) is not making a tackle. They can stretch their stick out left/right to demonstrate their reach for the attacker to move past.
- Each player attacks five times and then swap with their partner to defend.
- Swap partners every few minutes to work with different players.
Return to the Sharks & Fishes activity.

- Progress into an obstacle course. Ask players to help you get creative with your course!
- Eg. Blue cones are the river you have to get around, red cones are fire you have to avoid, yellow cones are quick sand you can't touch with your ball.

SET UP
- Two teams.
- Split pitch in half with goals for each team in each half. Eg. 4 goals in each half.
- The blue/white team is scoring in the red goals. The orange team is scoring in the yellow goals.
- If the blue/white team starts with the ball, the orange team cross over to defend. Play only takes place in one half of the pitch at a time.
- If the blue/white team scores in any of their goals, they get a point and then it's the orange team's turn.
- If the orange team intercepts, play transfers to the other half of the pitch with the orange team aiming to score.
Yes - The attacking team is successful in scoring goals.Reduce the number of goal options that they have.
No - The defending team successfully intercepts repeatedly.Reduce the number of defenders in each round to create 4 v 2, for example.
Keep teams small to encourage lots of touches on the ball and lots of goals scored.
Set up multiple games for teams to rotate every few minutes as a mini tournament.
