Skill Introduction (20 mins)

Organisation:

  • gates randomly scattered along 20m widex30m long area
  • 1 ball each for ball mastery warmup (toe taps, foundations, skills learned from week 1 etc.)
  • then 1 ball between 2
  • pass through gate to partner, then partner runs with ball towards new gate to pass back

Coaching Points:

  • head up to avoid collisions and find open gate
  • inside of foot to pass
  • step next to ball and pass (t-shape)
  • step in foot points to partner
  • inside of foot to control the ball

Progressions:

  • races (which pair can make the most passes with ball through most passes in 30 seconds)
  • 1or 2 defenders without the ball trying to steal and pass balls to coach for points. Rest of players in pairs passing through gates for points

Skill Training (20 mins)

Organisation:

  • 4v2
  • team scores a point when a player passes to a teammate through a gate
  • cannot score in the same gate twice in a row
  • defender steals ball and passes to coach

Coaching Points:

head up to find open gate

inside of foot pass and control

no toe pokes

  • Progressions:

take away gates and play 3 passes is a point

3 passes then attack on goals

Skill Game (20 mins)

Organisation:

  • 4v4
  • must make 1 pass before goal is scored

Coaching Points:

  • head up to find space
  • inside of the foot passing and receiving
  • look to make clear passing line when without the ball (can you see my feet?)
  • make diamonds/triangles

Progressions:

  • Regression- if passes are not being made, coach join in and play with whichever team has the ball. Continue encouraging passing and moving off the ball
