3v3 +1v1
Set up:
Use center circle and box it out for a larger area depending on age and ability.
3v3 (4v4 depending on ability) in grid with 1v1 at 18 yard line.
Instructions:
One team is assigned possession while the other counter attacking. When the counter attacking wins the ball, they look to play the striker quickly. Two other players that did not pass the ball in move in quickly to support. Not defenders follow at this point.
Progressions:
P1 - Add a player behind the circle in the event the counter attack cannot play forward immediately Support player must play forward to striker.
P2 - Add a 2nd defender at the 18.
P3 - Allow a DCM to leave the circle and chase.
P4 - Limit time to 12 seconds once the counter attack is on.
Coaching Points:
Quality of pass and 1st touch, movement by striker, quick runs to support forward, Strikers ability to hold the ball up, decision to play feet versus space. combination play with supporting teammates, scoring quickly.

Set up:
1-2-3-1 Formation
Instructions:
Normal game, goals scored within 10 second of winning possession worth 2 goals. 3 Touch maximum, one pass if you can, two if you must, 3 if you have too.

Warm Up: Counter Attack SAQ
Set up:
Two 15 x 20 set up 30 yads apart. Set up several speed and agility stations in 30 yard area. Each 15x20 has 5-6 players with one ball.
Instructions:
Starting with hands players pass and move around the grid. Upon coaches call players run to an open speed station and move to the opposite grid where they pick up a ball and continue. First group to get there first earns a point. First to 10 wins.
Progressions:
P1 - Ball on the ground.
P2 - One player turns back to defend.
Coaching Points:
Quality of pass and 1st touch, vision and decision making, Quality footwork through SAQ, Pass and move to a new position, shape. 1 touch if you can, 2 if you must, 3 if you absolutely have to!
