Description

Football Problem:

When we lose the ball in the middle third, we do not block passing lanes or try to condense the play. We are too spread on the field and slow to get into good BPO shape

Objective:

In this session I aim to improve the ability of the team in the middle third to reduce space on loss of possession.

Passing Practice

Session Organisation:

Two groups of 4v3 play in the middle area of the field in two boxes

Ball always starts with the 3 who must try and play to the top server.

If the 4 against them win the ball back they must, as quickly as possible, look to find the target player that play started from.

Session Organisation:

Progression- When the 4 win the ball back and play to the end target they can receive straight away and try to play to the top (double attack).

The 3 now have two attempts at getting into BPO positions.

Positioning Game

Session Organisation:

Players play a 7 v7 playing with 6/8/10/7/11/2/5.

Players must try toplay the ball from end to end. If a team is successful in reaching the end zone the ball is immediately turned over to opposition.

Team Task:

Play to target players quickly. When the ball is lost slow the play as a priority and if possible, win the ball back.

Player Tasks:

1.     6,8 or 10 who are not putting pressure on the ball to force play wide.

2.     7, 11 to recover and get narrow – where possible prevent passes to oppo 7&11

Coaches Cues:

       i.         6,8 or 10 who are not closest to the ball to mark ball side goal side. On the front foot doing two jobs. Stop forward passes and pressure the nearest player if the receive.

ii.         6,8,10, 7 & 11 to get behind the line of the horizontal line of the ball and narrow off when we are BPO.

iii.         Players around the immediate pressure to make intelligent decision to press and release from defence
