Football Problem:
Failure to win the ball back as soon as possible in the attacking 3rd.
Objective:
In this session I aim to improve winning the ball back as soon as possible in the attacking and middle 3rd.

2 x grids 15 x 15mtrs
14 x players
14 x balls

2 X Groups of players
7 players in each group Red & Yellow
Players pass the ball within their grid.
On the coaches call 1 player leaves their grid to win the ball back as quickly as possible in the opposing grid.
A 2nd,3rd,4th player are introduced on coaches call
1st team to win possesion gains a point
Player perform dynamic stretch
Progression:
Area larger / smaller
Limit touches
Increase running, passing & ball speed.

Positioning Game area 40m x 40m.

7 x (Red) V 7 x (Yellow)
5 players position themselves inside grid with 2 players from each team positioned on the outside of grid.
When in possession the team are to transfer the ball across the grid to the player positioned on the outside.
If you play the ball to the outside you follow your pass and the outside player comes inside the grid.
The defending team attempts to win the ball back as quickly as possible and attempts same.
Step Up / Down
Make grid smaller / bigger.
Limited / Unlimited touches.
Minimum number of passes before passing to Bouncers
Award points for success.
Team Task:
Win the ball back as soon as possible
Player Tasks:
Player closest to ball carrier immediately press the ball to deny oppostion time and space.
Press opposition collectively as a team in direction that gives the best opportunity to win the ball
Keep defence compact
Communicate with team from behind
Coaches Cues:
If you are the closest player to the ball carrier immediately press
When the ball in on the opposite side of the pitch move quickly to make the ground as small as possible.
If you are behind a team mate Encourage them to move toward the ball carrier via verbal communication

Red team start by trying to score in the large goal
Yellow team must prevent Red team succeeding by applying immediate pressure to player with the ball When Yellow team win ball, red team attempt to win the ball back as quickly as possible and create scoring opportunity
Offside rule applies
Restart play with Red team from half way line.
Team Task:
Win the ball back as soon as possible in attacking 3rd by pressing the ball carrier
6, 8, 10, 7, 11, 9
Player Task:
9 - Can you position yourself to direct the GK to play No 4
7 ,11 - when 3 or 4 recieves the ball close passing lanes to 2 & 5
7, 11 - Prevent GK from changing the point of attack
9,7,11- Move as quicly as possible to be goalside of the ball
6, 8, 10 - Be in a position to win the ball back. If unable force a backward pass.
Coaches Cues:
9 - When the GK has the ball direct the ball to either No 3, 4 by positioning youself to one side of the 18 yard box.
7, 11 - When 3, 4 has the ball apply pressure to force a backward pass
7, 11- When 3, 4 has the ball move into a position to deny either GK or 3 to change the point of attack
7 , 11 - If 2 or 5 has the ball move quickly to deny forward pass
6,8,10 - If your opponent has the ball be in a position to apply pressure to force a turn over or a backward pass.
Direct pressure from inside to force WD toward sideline or if already in wide position press from outside to encourage negative pass but if unable to apply early pressure, drop into position in space to prevent forward pass
React upon winning possession with quick forward pass preferrably behind defenders if possible and movement of players into forward positions to create goal scoring opportunities
