Using half-field 8v8 to goal & halfway line.
i) Team attacking the goal try and score as-per-FIFA-rules
ii) If defending team win the ball, they are looking to possess the ball and penetrate the halfway line.
iii) IF defending team successfully penetrate the halfway line with the ball, BOTH teams change roles and game resumes immediately.
Focus
Line of Confrontation / Compactness: Are defenders drawn forward to the ball? Pulled out of position by attackers movement? Allow gaps & space to be exploited?
Pressing: When defending team press the ball, do they ALL move and press as 'one'? Do they squeeze all the available space around the ball? Do they force an error?
Transition: Once in possession, do defending team immediately look forward to attack space, push up and get behind their opponents?

Pressing in boxes (20 mins)
40yd x 30yd areas; 2-teams of eight players in separate areas. Coach plays a ball to one team to possess. Opposing team sends 4-defenders across to try to press and win the ball.
i) If defenders win the ball 3-times (or force errors), possession goes to the defending team.
ii) If defenders win the ball AND successfully pass the ball across to their teammates, possession changes immediately.
iii) If possession team complete 10-passes, they win.
iv) If defending team wins the ball AND play across to their side successfully, they keep and build of the pass total of their opponents. IE, win the ball at 5-passes, begin their passing sequence at 5-passes.
Focus
Intensity: How intense do the defenders work to force errors and win back possession?
Teamwork: How well do defenders work together in P, C, B & D?
Reading the Game: How well do defenders read the game? See the next pass? Deny passing lanes, space and time?
