Dribbling with Demands10 mins

After team dynamic stretching/warm up

Dribbling with Demands (10 minutes)

- all players in 18 yard box with a ball. Instruct players to 'dribble' the ball around while staying within the lines

 - Dribbling should be completed using the laces or top of the feet.

- Introduce demands one at a time;

 - cut: using outside part of foot (pinky toe) to change directions quickly and sharply.

 - pull back: use bottom of foot ontop of ball to stop, roll, and turn to change directions.

 - toe taps: ball is stopped and both feet are in hopping motion to 'tap' the ball. Little to no ball movement here.

 - roll: use bottom of feet to 'roll' the ball. Rolling motion should be towards body. If going left, using right foot and vise           versa.

- Call out all demands one at a time once all have been introduced one by one.

- Encourage head up, and to dribble into space. When look up, look for space and dribble into it. The less collisions with teammates, the better.

Pass, Receive, Turn20 mins

Key Factors

This practice is all about technique and talking. The actions of player B are dictated by players  A & C.

There are 4 calls in this particular practice:

  • Time
  • Man On
  • Turn
  • Two's

Organisation

1: TIME: Player A will pass the ball in to player B, who will turn on the spot and play a pass to player C

2: MAN ON: Player A will pass the ball into player B, who will play a pass straight back to player A. player A will then pass back to player B, who will turn and pass to player C

3: TURN: Player A will pass the ball into player B, who will turn and dribble the ball to player C, play a quick 1-2, before dribbling back to his starting position, before making a pass back to player A

4: TWO'S: Player A will pass the ball into player B, who will pass the ball straight back to player A. Player A will now play a long pass around player B and into player C.

Once each activity is played 3 time, so that all 3 players rotate. Once all 3 players have rotated within their activity, they move onto the next.

Four Corners (Passing Game)20 mins

Set Up:

- four small grids for corners

- create two equal teams, if unequal numbers add a 'neutral player' (whoever passes to neutral player, this is the team they are on)

How:

- Players will work on passing and receiving by passing the ball around the field.

- To score, players must pass to a teammate who runs into one of the grids. Player who receives pass in grid, must stop the ball to receive a point for their team.

- Game continues once player who just received the point passes out of grid to teammate.

- Only one player allowed in grid at a time, no defeding in grids. Team can defend outside grids by interrupting pass.

Progressions:

- Have one player from one team in each of the two grids. For example, one blue player in one grid, another blue in another grid, one white player in a grid, and another white player in the grid.

- To receive a point, players will pass the ball to their teammate in the grid who receives ball. From there, the player who passed the ball will switch spots with the player who received.

- Game continues on when ball is then played back out into the field.

Further Progression:

- Give players a maximum amount of touches as 2. One touch is control and one more to pass.

Coach Tips:

- Encourage players to take a first touch on the ball to control before passing.

- Look at proper touch and passing technique is met. With middle of the ball.

- Players should be continuously scanning the field to see where their teammates are on the field. Players should also scan the field to know which direction their first touch should be to keep possession.
