Players will run on the spot. When the coach shouts out a colour, the player will run around the coloured cone and return back to their original spot.
Coaching Points:
- Constant high intensity throughout drills
- Fast feet
- Form: stay on toes, high knees and work arms
- Quick reaction to colour
- Players awareness of the coloured cones
- Explosive movement to and around the cones
- Keep scanning shoulders to stay aware of the coloured cones.
Progression: Introduction of footballs. Players will do toe taps rather than run on the spot and will dribble around the required cone.
Coaching Points:
- Fast feet, small touches around cone
- Keep ball close to body to guarantee control
Progression (2): Players go in pairs. Feeder will stand 3 - 5 yards away from player and will play quick passes. Once a colour has been called the player will run to the other side of the coloured cone, play a one-two with the feeder and return back to their original position.
Coaching Points:
- Short and sharp passes to keep up intensity
- Striking the centre of the ball when passing
- Adjusting feet to pass the ball after reaching the coloured ball.

Players will work in pairs. Working on one side, players will play a one-two with the feeder and run sideways through the cones and run back through to return to their starting position. Players will swap roles after 1 minute of the practice with a 20 - 30 second rest in between. Players will also swap direction of their passes and runs after each go (if player initially passed with their right foot they will now use their left foot on the next go).
Coaching Points:
- High intensity throughout practice
- Fast feet through cones
- Adjusting feet just before the pass
- Execution of bounce pass.
Progression: Players will now play passes on each side of the cones rather than only using one foot at a time.
Progression (2): Players will use their back foot to play the pass.
Coaching Points:
- Opening up body to receive the ball on the back foot
Competitions:
- How many passes can a player reach in one round?
- Can they get more than their partner?
- Can they beat their last score?
Conditions:
- When familiar with the drill, players must scan their shoulders before making the pass. This creates match game realism of scanning for defenders or space.

1. Players start by dribbling through the central cones. They then speed up their dribbling towards the coach, who will shout out a colour. The player must then turn and dribble around the coloured cone and make there way back to the start line and dribbling in and out of the same coloured slalom cones before reaching the line.
2. Players will do the same but the coloured cones will now be behind the coach and players must beat the coach in order to reach the coloured cone.
Coaching Points:
- Close ball control
- Attacking the coach at pace
- Reaction to the called colour
- Evasive skills to quickly turn or beat defender

Players will be split into 2 teams, who will number themselves amongst their groups. Each team will be in a zone (shown as shaded areas), where they will be passing and moving in their team. The coach will then call out a number and the players from each team with that number will run through the gates and aim to play against each other to score. Game will initially start as 1v1s but can be progressed to 2v2 and 3v3. Defenders are not allowed in the boxes in order to prevent them from standing in the goals.
