Screen 1 (10 mins)

Coaching Points: Focus, Quick Reactions, Decision Making, Player reading

Session Organisation: 7 minutes

Goalkeepers work in pairs standing three yards apart from each other. Each GK has a tennis ball, they start by tossing their tennis ball back and forth catching one-handed.  One GK tosses the ball high, the other GK tosses the tennis ball at chest level.

Progression: Now use one tennis ball and one soccer ball. One GK starts with the tennis ball in their hand and the other GK starts with the soccer ball at their feet. The GK with the tennis ball tosses the ball into the air for the other GK to catch as the GK with the soccer ball passes the soccer ball to the other GK. Continue to do this to get into a rhythm.

Progression:  Use two soccer balls. Goalkeepers start with the soccer ball in their hands. One GK tosses the soccer ball at chest level to the other goalkeeper while the other GK bounce passes the soccer ball to the other GK. Goalkeepers get into a rhythm. Don't make it predictable.

Training Load: Warm-UP

Screen 2 (10 mins)

Coaching Points: Decision Making,  Quick Reactions, Sharp quick footwork, Quality and weight of pass, Body shape.

Session Organisation: 10 minutes-

The goalkeeper performs footwork through cones. Coach plays a pass to the GK for a one-touch pass. The coach then says one of the colors of the wide discs. The goalkeeper sprints to that colored disc. Then performs some type of dynamic stretch back to goal.

PROGRESSION: Same as above except when the coach calls out the colored disc the GK runs out and performs the K-block technique aligning the middle of their body with the ball.

Training Load: Physical Warm-Up, start elevating the heart rate and tempo at which they perform the tasks

Screen 3 (25 mins)

Coaching Points: Decision Making, Quick Reactions, Positioning, Set Position, Focus

Session Organisation: 20 minutes, Two working GK's taking turns then switch out two GK after a certain amount of time or reps.

Activation for diving: Goalkeepers perform side rockers 10 on each side.

Coach services with a volley to the GK hands ( vary services, off the ground, half and full volley). The GK catches the ball using the proper hand catching technique, then rolls the ball back to the coach who then plays a pass to the player to the left or right of the GK. The GK closes down space while the ball is being passed(moving). The GK performs K-block save as the player with the ball plays a shot off the GK.

PROGRESSION: Same as above except the coach plays a pass that is not directly to the other players and the GK attacks the ball diving hands first as players add pressure.

PROGRESSION TWO:

Same as the previous two progressions now it is the coach's choice of where he plays the ball and it is not scripted so the GK has to make a quick decision on whether to attack the ball going hands first or to use a blocking technique. The coach can also keep the ball and take touches with the ball towards the GK.

Training Load: High intensity to prepare for going into team training

Screen 4 (25 mins)

Coaching Points: Organization, Communication, Decision making, Quick Reactions

Session Organisation: Set-up 6v4 or 7v4 overload in the defensive third of the pitch. (shaded area)  The GK and back four-line try to defend against attacking players who are looking to break the line for a through ball by maintaining possession and moving the ball to catch the back four out of shape or flat. The top of the 18-yard line box serves as the offsides line. All balls are to be played through or over the top to penetrate the goal box.

If the attackers can play a through ball the GK must decide whether to hold his line and defend the goal or come out and either slow down the attacker with the ball and force them to make a mistake by taking a bad touch then winning the ball. If the ball is played through can the GK win the ball before the attacker or one of his defenders get to the ball?

Key things to think about-  The distance of the nearest defender to the ball and attacker. Speed of the ball. Can I win the ball? Should I use a blocking technique or can I win the ball with my hands?

Training Load: High intensity match like.
