Instructions:
Set-Up is using ½ field although adjustments can be made depending on age of players
Field split into thirds from ½ way line to to penalty box. 2 Goals placed in the 2 wide channels at half way point.
1 defender starts in each channel on the line where the ‘D’ meets the penalty box with Gk behind them
Play begins with #6 receiving a ball and playing to attacking wide player to come in the field for 1v1 with def. If defender wins ball they attack small goal. Play then begins on other side
Progressions:
If defender wins they have 2 (maybe 1) touch to finish into goal (quick transition)
Add an attacker in a small box at the ‘D’ to act as a wall player. Potential 1-2 or disguise etc...
Add a recovering defender starting next to small goal at half way point
Defending Coaching Points:
Keep att on one side of the field (you choose) by angling your run to close off one side. Do not over angle to present too much space for the opponent to drive into
Close the space as quick as possible and slow down in a low body position when near attacker
Angle shoulders...NO SQUARE SHOULDERS! Force attacker in the direction you want them to go and DO NOT let them get across your body
Don’t jump in and win the ball when the option presents itself
Attacking Coaching Points:
First touch should open up the channel and provide an option in and out the field. Be direct.
Touch should be in far enough in front of body to allow the attacker to move forward immediately
Slightly before the defender gets within tackling distance the attacker should perform some kind a disguise (drop of shoulder etc…) and accelerate away from defender with a strong touch. Two different speeds for this attack is essential.
