Football/Soccer Session (Academy Sessions): Attacking corners 9v9

set up to attack (20 mins)

Attacking corners:

Set up as diagram on 9v9 dimensions.

Signals:

Left hand up - Near post corner

Right hand up - Far post corner

Two hands up - short corner

Runs are the same for near and far post corner.

Short corner - On signal 7 makes run bringing defenders with him, plays a 1-2 with 11. 

who now has the option of:

 1. Crossing into the box.  

 2. Playing to 6 at the edge of the box. 

 3. Drive into position to shoot if not closed down.

This will be decided by player depending on how defense reacts to short corner.

Coaching Points:

• Timing of runs, correct distance between 7 and 11 to exploit space.
• Runs in the box, no one standing still, attack the space and ball. Timing of runs, don't be ahead of the play.
• Delivery of crosses into box, accuracy and weight of cross.
• Reaction to second ball in the box.
• Players 2,3 and 4 aware and in position in case of a long clearance/fast break out.
