Rondo 4v1 (15 mins)

Organization: Grid 10x10 or adjust to level/age.

Instructions: Rondo of 4v1. Players outside of the grid are to keep the ball from defender in the middle. Player that lost possession becomes the defender.

Coaching Points/Questions:

Why is the first touch important? What can you do when your teammate has the ball? How should you receive the ball? What should you do when you dont have ball?

1. First touch 2. Create supporting/passing angles. 3. Receiving with the back foot (hips open, head up, far leg). 4. Scan 5. Timing of runs and passes.

Regressions: 4v. 4v1 but semi pressure from the defender(switch defender every 1-2 mins)

Progressions: Player that did a bad pass is defender. Limited touches (2-3 touches max). Add counter goals for defender

Pos. Play 4v3+1

Organization: As shown, we would have 2 small grids within a big grid. 4 players on the outside against 3 defender and 1 neutral.

Instructions: Every time the ball is switched from on grid to another or once our 2/3 receives the ball every time the ball is switched from one grid to another, a point is awarded.

For the defending team, only 2 defenders are allowed to be in a grid, so communication is key for the defenders to work together. If defenders win the ball, they are allowed to score on the counter goals.

Coaching Points/Questions: 1-2 touches if possible. Attract defenders to create space. 3rd man runs. Positional and numerical superiority.

Conditioned Game (Playing out of the Back)

Organization: As shown or adjusted to level and # of players.

Instructions:

Team in possession (red), are we able to play out of the back while the defending team (blue) is pressing high? Can we beat the high press using a superiority (qualitative, numerical, positional, socio-affective) and score into the other goal? If we lose the ball, can we recover quickly and play out of our zone?

Defending team (blue), are we able to press high and win the ball near their goal? If we can, can we score quickly while they are off balance? Can we create a superiority in order to score (qualitative, numerical, positional, socio-affective)?

Coaching Points/Questions: Body shape and awareness for both teams. Be aware of cues for pressing (bad touch, body shape, any of the superiorities). Passes must be precise playing from the back into the opponents goal (team in possession) and be aware of the defending teams positioning and look to create any of the 4 superiority.
