HNDLNG 1 (10 mins)

HANDLING PRACTICE 1

  • Basic handling with 3 GK’s
  • Coach begins with first volley central 
  • GK returns ball and shuffles right for volley on the angle.
  • GK returns back central in line with coach for central volley before mirroring the same movement on the left this time.
COACHING POINTS
  • Ensure GK’s are in line and square with the ball 
  • Check footwork is clean and give potential ideas to speed up (crossover step)
  • Ensure set position is correct and correct hand techniques are used in relation for the serve given.

HNDLNG 2 (10 mins)

HANDLING PRACTICE 2

  • GK will start central with the coach serving a volley into hands. 
  • Fast reposition into line with server for volley on cut back position.
  • Fast movement across the goal into line and square with server on the angle for a strike off the floor into hands.
COACHING POINTS
  • Make sure GK’s are square with the ball and ready to catch. 
  • Footwork clean across the goal and set position neutral.
  • Head turn first on cut back to see ball earlier.
  • Footwork techniques across goal. (Cross over / split step).

HNDLNG 3 (10 mins)

HANDLING PRACTICE 3

  • GK start central again with the coach volleying into hands.
  • GK will distribute this ball via roll into server on cut back edge of box. (Sides)
  • Server will move the ball on to server on the angle for them to strike. Allowing freedom with the service (High, Low, Mid)
  • GK will get in line with server and claim the ball that is played in. 
  • GK then quickly scans for mini goal and distributes into, simulating the “what next” on a match day. 

COACHING POINTS
  • Handling techniques based on the ball (basket, scoop, W).
  • Distribution method in relation to distance of the goal. (Roll, throw, side volley). Should be a roll. 
  • Are GK’s being proactive and getting set before the ball arrives?
  • Are the moving with intensity and speed at the right times?
