Warm Up (20 mins)

Warm Up

45x25

Pair up players, put them in the same end box but split the team in half; one half in each end. Number each pair 1, 2, etc.

How it works: partners are moving in their box working on technical aspects of Build; passing, receiving, movement off the ball and communication. When coach calls a number, partners must Counter quickly by breaking out of their box and combing around a "defender" (pole) and get to the other end as fast as possible.

Progression: Require a combination with two sets of partners at one time or have a set of partners defend counter instead of attack.

CP:

- Quality techniques when passing/moving

- Transition moment from build to counter

- Attack with pace

- Connect with each other through communication

- Quick combination to relieve pressure

- Provide proper width and depth for build and counter

6v3 - 3 team (15 mins)

Possession, 6v3 - 3 team

45x35

How it works: three teams of 3, games of 1.5 minutes. Create additional teams of three that will not be working in possession; non-working teams are getting touches on the ball outside of the rectangle, or conditioning. Coach designates two teams as offense initially, then the game dictates the rest. Two teams possess as a 6v3. When defending team regains possesion, team that lost possesion is now on defense and other two teams merge as a 6v3 again. Coach plays ball in when it goes out of bounds.

CP:

- Transition from defense to having possession of ball quickly

- Recognize who is on your team and find quick combinations

- Finding receiving lines after winning possession is key to success

- Utilize full width and depth of space; expand offensively

Four corners to goal (20 mins)

Four corners possession, counter to goal

50x50

5v5 + 2

How it works: Possession in the large square. Teams try to build into one of the 4 squares and then quickly combine out of one of the red corners to goal. Red corners cannot be defended; once an offensive player has established their position in their, the other team cannot intrude in the space. Coach plays a new ball in if it goes out of bounds or a goal is scored. 1 point per goal scored.

CP:

- Players can defend counter attack to goal

- All players can get out of square to help create counter attack

- Patience when building; attacking numbers will be 7v5 because of neutral players

- Can attack either goal. Look for best option and offensive overloads

- Movement into corners to initiate counter is imperative

- When breaking out of square, attack with speed
