STATION 1
Delay, Body Position & Speed 1 - 15 minutes
Organization
- 20 x 20 yard area set up as shown
- 4 players (2 Teams of 2) set up as shown, progressive lines
- 1 ball (additional around the outside)
Instructions
- players run out to the middle to press the ball
- 1st defender closes down the ball
- 2nd defender provides cover and support
- the middle cone is there to indicate when 1st defender should slow down and get low
- on the command of switch given by the covering player the defenders change roles
Coaching Points
- speed and angle of approach should force attacker into cover
- angle and distance of 2nd defender
- ability to change roles quickly and correctly

STATION 2
Delay, Body Position & Speed 2 - 15 minutes
Organization
- 20 x 10 yard area set up as shown
- 3 players (1 Attacker, 1 Defender, 1 Server) set up as shown
- 1 ball
Instructions
- the attacking player positioned on the end line starts the exercise with a pass into the centrally positioned attacker
- as the pass is made the defending player comes into close down the attacker
- the attacker must attempt to score by dribbling the ball over the end line the defender has just come from
- points are scored for a successful tackle
- forwards rotate positions after each attempt
- defenders have five attempts before changing with an attacking player
Coaching Points
- close down quickly as the ball travels
- slow down as you approach the attacker
- get touch tight – prevent the attacker from turning
- mirror the attacker’s feet

STATION 3
SSG (15 minutes), interventions coaching Delay, Body Position only
- 8v8
- No GK (GK plays centre back to develop distrubution skills)
- Goal has to be scored from inside the box
- Offside rule is played

Organization
- 2 cone triangle closest to players
- 2 cones 10 feet out progressively from triangle
Instructions
- coach shouts a combination of numbers in triangle - 2-3-1, 3-1-2-1
- on completion of combination player sprints to middle cone, then jogs to end cone, before turning and jogging to back of line
