Session Objective: Attacking Principles (U6 – U9) - Mobility/Improvisation 

  • Can you run with the ball?
  • Can you keep your head up when running with the ball?
  • Can you be brave and take your player on?
  • Can you keep the ball?
  • Can you use both feet when running with the ball?
  • No Standing Zone!

1v1 to Small Goals (15 mins)

Session Organisation:

  • Divide the players into two even groups with 1 ball.
  • 1 small portable goal at each end.
  • One group good attacking (red) and one group (yellow) defending. Change after all players in red have attacked the goal.
  • Field size 15 (L) x 10 (W).

Rules/Explanation:

  • The red player has possession and attacks the goal.
  • If the yellow defender wins the ball they score in the opposite goal. 
  • Draw in defenders to make a move and beat the defender 1v1.
Progressions
  • The time of sets or size of the area can be adjusted to suit the needs and abilities of the players.

Technical Coaching Points:

  • As above.

Tactical Coaching Points:

  • 1v1 moves to create a scoring opportunity.
  • Attackers use your speed.
  • Defenders protect the goal and wait for your moment to win the ball.

Session Timing:

  • Complete 4 sets of 3 minutes with a 1 minute rest in between sets.
