Organizational / Instructions

Chain Tig

Designate area with cones.

If tigger catches you, then the pair of you must hold hands and work together to try catch the rest of the class. The last person not part of the chain wins!

Add in different movements such as skipping or side stepping.

Coaching Points

Jogging

- Keep upper body relaxed and shoulders down.

- Hold arms at a 90 degree angle.

- Avoid running on heels and instead stay on balls of feet.

Progressions / Adaptations

Progressions:

- Assign 2 tiggers in different coloured bibs. The tigger who has the biggest chain by the end is the winner.

Adaptations:

- Split the hall into 2 sections if the class is bigger.

Technical Practice (10 mins)

Organizational / Instructions

Passing in Motion

Class will be split into 4 lines.

The people who you are in line with across the way are your teammates.

Number 1's will start with the ball.

Everyone will jog up the way whilst Number 1 holds the ball. When Number 2 reaches their cone, Number 1 will chest, shoulder or bounce pass the ball to Number 2.

Then Number 2, they will pass to Number 3. After Number 3 will pass the ball to Number 4.

Number 4 will then - from the cone in the semi-circle - pivot, then try take a shot and then the team jogs back down either side of the hall that is closest to them i.e., 3 and 4 will jog down the right side.

Number 4's ended with the ball, so they will also begin with it.

The lines will be moved up after a few minutes to allow for number 2 and 3's to have a go at shooting. This practice is encompassing everything that has been learned over the past few weeks.

Coaching Points

Chest Pass:

- Turn hips in the direction you are passing in.

- Have feet shoulder width apart.

- Take a step forward to generate more power.

Progressions / Adaptations

Progressions:

- This practice could be made competitive by having the team keep track of how many shots they can get in. Once every team has had at least four shots, they switch over shooters. After that, the team with the most successful shots is the winner.

Adaptations:

- This could be done width ways instead of length ways to minimise the amount of space having to be covered.

Technical Practice w/ Progression (5 mins)

Organizational / Instructions

Killer

This is a more independent progression.

Split hall into 2 sections if possible.

Split children into two large groups (1 and 2).

Have each group stand behind a cone.

Each child - one at a time -  will take a shot. If successful they will pass the ball to next teammate and join back of line. If not, they must run to opposite end of wall and cross over the line of cones separating the two groups.

If the person behinds them succeeds in getting a shot before they cross over the line, they will perform a foul e.g. 10 star jumps.

Coaching Points

Shot

- Both hands on the ball.

- As you shoot, bend your knees.

- Unfold arm and straighten it; flicking wrist to spin the ball.

Progressions / Adaptations

Progressions:

- Players will go out instead of performing a foul. Last person standing is the winner!

- Players must pivot before going for a shot at the shooting cone.

Adaptations:

- Players can go closer than the shooting cone if really struggling.

Conditioned Game (15 mins)

Organizational / Instructions

NETBALLTOURNAMENT

Split children into 4 teams and bib them separately.

Each game will last 2-3 minutes.

The scoring system will be:

Win - Three points

Draw - Two points

Lose - One point

Everyone will play against everyone and at the end, the team with the most points is the winner. However, it is more important that everyone tries their best and that way, everyone is a winner.

Conditions:

- Five Passes before shooting.

- Everyone must have touched the ball.

- Choose a player to mark and stick with them the full game.

- Everyone must have pivoted with ball.

Coaching Points

Passing

- Keep the ball close to body before releasing.

- Ensure elbows are tucked in.

- Keep feet planted on ground.

Progressions / Adaptations

Progressions:

- Players will play to time limit (3 seconds with ball), meaning they must put new skills to test in a high pressure environment.

Adaptations:

- If possible split the hall into 2 sections for better/more gameplay. If not an option, players who are sitting off could practice their passing.

Organizational / Instructions

Freeze

Children will walk around the hall.

Coach will call out different commands that children must freeze in (Coach will demonstrate each one):

Balance on one foot.

Crouch on the floor.

Standing straight.

Star shape.

Lie on the floor - FINISHING ONE!

Coaching Points

Balancing on One Foot:

- Find a point to focus on.

- Have arms out either side of body to help even out weight distribution.

- Raise one leg above the ground or bend knee up.

Progressions / Adaptations

Progressions:

- If a player is not quick enough to get into position, they can either be out and get ready to line up at the door for teacher returning OR they can take the Coach's role of calling out different positions to freeze in.

Adaptations:

- Children can come up with different positions OR can be made to make the shapes/positions together i.e., form a letter with your classmates.

Debrief:

The coach should give the children the chance to respond through open questions with what they have gained/learned from today's session.
