Organizational / Instructions

Follow the Leader

In pairs, the players will number themselves 1 and 2.

Player 1 will start with the ball. Player 2 will be standing - socially distanced - behind them.

Player 2 will follow Player 1 as they jog around the designated area.

Coach will give different commands i.e. high knees, heel flicks.

When Coach shouts SWITCH, Player 1 will chest pass to Player 2 and begin following them.

Coaching Points

Players must keep eyes up to avoid bumping into other participants.

Catch the ball in a 'W' shape with hands, this will increase the grip you have on the ball.

Make sure the pass is aimed for partner's chest.

Progressions / Adaptations

Progressions: Add in the command FIND. This will involve the player who is not holding the ball to go find a new player that has a ball.

Adaptations: Stick with the SWITCH command but strip away all other movement commands. This means that the player will only have to listen out for when to pass the ball.

PAIRED WORK

In pairs again, you will stand behind cones laid out opposite each other.

One player will have the ball.

You will CHEST pass the ball to each other back and fourth whilst remembering to step forward as you release it.

Coaching Points

Follow through with your wrists, arms and fingers after releasing the ball.

Keep elbows tucked in - NO CHICKEN WINGS.

Transfer your weight from your back foot to front foot by taking a step forward.

Progressions / Adaptations

Progression: Make it competitive. Set a goal of who can get 10 CORRECT chest passes first and then sit down, you could increase this number based on ability level.

Adaptations: Decrease the distance between players so they're not having to throw as far.

PAIRED WORK - PROGRESSION

Two queues will be formed.

Pairs number themselves 1 and 2.

Pairs will be facing each other; Player 1 will have the ball first.

Player 2 will run in front and Player 1 will CHEST pass the ball in front of Player 2.

CALL OUT YOUR PARTNER'S NAME - this will alert to them you are passing.

This will allow Player 2, to run onto the ball and catch it more fluently rather than stopping and waiting for the pass.

Player 1 will then run out and Player 2 will pass ahead of them.

This will continue till they have reached the end cone.

They will run to the end of the queue and switch who starts with the ball before continuing.

Coaching Points

Spread your fingers over the ball to maintain a firmer grip.

Path of ball should be flat and fast - imagine passing along the top of a ruler which is straight and if your pass isn't, the ball will fall off.

Pass to the space in front of your partner - not directly to them.

Progressions / Adaptations

Progression: Add a defender in between the players.

Adaptation: Decrease the distance again or slow it down to a walk until they have a better understanding of passing in front of player.

Notes: Blue arrows are where the players run along. Black arrows are where the player passes too.

TOUCH NETBALL

Teams of 7 will be in place.

The goal is to get the ball to the chosen 'shooter' who will tap the cone with the ball, scoring a point.

Before the shooter can score a point however, all players must have been passed too; this does include the shooter.

With defenders in play, players must successfully get away from them and gain possession of the ball.

Coaching Points

Turn your hips in the direction you are passing to.

Release ball at chest height.

Catch the ball in a 'W' shape with hands and bring close to chest after receiving.

Progressions / Adaptations

Progressions: To make the game more difficult, if player drops the ball, they must start over in terms of passing to everyone before the shooter can score.

Adaptations: Have a certain amount of passes that players must complete before shooting i.e. 5 passes then shoot.

SLOW JOG AND STATIC STRETCHES

Bring the players into a circle. In that circle, do a slow jog around twice then a third lap of a slow walk, before going back to your original position.

Players will stretch up with interlocked hands.

Then move into a quadricep stretch.

Write your name with your hips.

Shake everything off.

Coaching Points

Keep shoulders down from ears.

Stand tall with hand firmly around foot or ankle.

Feet shoulder width apart with hands on hips.

Progressions / Adaptations

Progression - Quadricep Stretch: On the floor, have one leg bent in front at a 90 degree angle and your back knee is bent. Bring that back leg up and pull it towards your back, which must be kept straight.

Adaptations - Interlocked Finger Stretch: Interlock fingers and stretch arms out directly in front of you. This can be a good choice if you are suffering a shoulder injury or are simply just tighter in that area.
