2v2 Rondo + 3rd Player (15 mins)

Explanation:
  • 2v2 with the aim of making 4 passes and transferring the ball to the other group.
  • After the first pass, a player from the 2nd group can join in the top end by running around the outside of the grid, making a temporary 3v2.
  • If defenders win the ball, they transfer the ball to the other group and restart the play.
  • 60s rounds
Principles:
  • Dualities between players (curtains, blocks, wall passes, between lines)
  • Introduce the 3rd player principles (line of 3, indirect curtains, indirect blocks)
  • 1-player principles (face forward, keep the ball moving, move with the ball, move the ball with limited touches

Coaching Points:

  • Indirect curtain: the 3rd player can look to run in front of the defender when receiving the ball. Aim is to change the focus of the defender and change the free player.
  • Indirect block: the 3rd player can block the defender from the outside, preventing him from attacking our ball carrier and allowing us to progress our possession play.
  • Line of 3: Our 3rd player should look to position themselves in between pockets of space to create a LO3.
  • Attack pockets of space: If we position ourselves in pockets of space IN FRONT of the defender, we are able to play in between the gaps here, and use either a wall pass to drag defenders in and open up a free player, or play into the 3rd man and he can attack the space.
  • Head Up Futsal: The ball carrier needs to get his head up and find the free player based on what the defender is attracted to.
  • Movement after the pass: If you don't get the ball, attack new space.

2v2 + 3rd Player (20 mins)

Explanation:

  • 2v2 situation with a 3rd player joining after the first pass to make a 3v2.
  • The 3rd player is is restricted to 2 touches.
  • The objective is to use the 3v2 situation to generate a finish at goal.

Coaching Points:
  • 3rd player to use a variety of indirect blocks and indirect curtains to generate superiority:
    • Decision based on initial starting position of defenders
  • How can we create a LO3 that allows us to penetrate and go forward?
  • Can we use a 1v1 situation to generate a shot at goal?
  • Can we create wall passes between defenders to create space for our 3rd man?
    • What other ways can our 3rd player move into the gap between defenders?
      • Run from behind the defenders?
  • Can our 3rd man penetrate directly behind the defenders?
    • How does our pivot react to fill and balance space?
